Fostering for Kittens

Anna Bley shares how her family is making a difference for the lives of foster kittens!

Our family has lived in Innis Arden for 10 years. We love being so close to the pool and all of the fun community events.

We started fostering kittens (and sometimes cats) in 2019. We foster through a local agency called SAFe — Seattle Area Feline Rescue. To be honest, I became interested in fostering kittens because I did not want to commit to owning our own pets. When fostering, you can pick and choose when you take in the animals. Plus, how fun is it to always have new kittens?

It is fun to be able to have kittens, they are so gosh darn cute. But there is definitely a need for fosters in the community for all sorts of cats. We don’t always just have kittens. Sometimes there are adult cats that are waiting for surgeries or strays that need socialization. The best way to do this is to foster a pregnant momma (they call her a queen) who is waiting to have babies. The kids have been able to see two sets of kittens being born, which was so exciting! They see them grow from teeny, tiny babies that can’t walk or see to the bustling, bouncing kittens ready to be adopted.

The kids are all involved with the fosters. They are a big part of socializing the kittens and spend lots of time playing and snuggling them. I think they most like being able to pick out the names of all the kittens.
