The Hatcher Family

For Steven Hatcher and Sona Isharani, life in Irving Park is about more than just a beautiful home and a convenient location. It’s about the strength of community, the resilience of family, and the intentional pursuit of a meaningful life. As accomplished dental professionals—Steven as the founder of Triad Dentistry and Sona as a board-certified pediatric dentist at Triad Pediatric Dentistry—the couple has spent years building their practices while raising their daughter, Sophie, a seventh grader at Greensboro Day School. But the last several years have brought profound challenges, reshaping the way they approach life, family, and the time they have together.

Finding Strength Through Life’s Challenges
The Hatchers have faced what many call the “sandwich generation” phase—caring for aging parents while raising a child. Steven’s father, a veteran of the U.S. Army Special Forces, passed away in 2023 after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer’s. Sona’s father is in his seventh year with dementia, requiring round-the-clock care. Then, in 2021, their world was shaken again when Sona was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“When you lose a loved one or face a life-altering diagnosis, you’re forced to confront what really matters,” Sona says. “You start thinking about how you want to live, how you want to spend your time, and what you want to pass down to your child.” For the Hatchers, this meant a conscious effort to simplify life. They committed to prioritizing wellness, creating space for rest, travel, and quality family time. “We’ve learned to let go of FOMO—the fear of missing out,” Steven explains. “We try to make decisions that align with our values, rather than just filling our schedules.” That mindset was reinforced by the overwhelming support they received from their Irving Park neighbors. “When I was recovering from surgery, our neighbors stepped up in ways we never expected—walking our dog, helping with house chores, offering meals,” Sona recalls. “It was a reminder of how special this community really is.”

Living with Intention
The Hatchers embrace a philosophy of mindful living, drawing inspiration from faith, family, and their personal experiences. Their mornings begin with a ritual they call S.A.V.E.R.S. —Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, and Scribing (journaling). “It’s been life-changing,” Sona says. “Taking time to reflect and set intentions for the day allows us to show up as our best selves for our patients, our family, and each other.” They’ve also made travel a priority, hoping to expose Sophie to as much of the world as possible before she graduates high school. “So far, she’s been to 23 countries,” Steven says proudly. “We’d rather spend money on experiences than things.” Sophie’s top travel memories include skiing in Colorado, while Sona treasures her trips to India, and Steven names Dubai and Japan as his favorites. Despite their busy professional lives, giving back is at the heart of what they do. They are proud supporters of organizations like Operation Smile, Hirsch Wellness, the Alzheimer’s Association, and breast cancer research initiatives. Their commitment to service extends to the Greensboro Urban Ministry, Greensboro Young Life, Greensboro Children’s Museum, Family Service of the Piedmont, Greensboro Day School, the American Cancer Society, and Hands for Hearts, which raises awareness for congenital heart defects. Through their work, they help patients restore confidence in their smiles, and when they travel, they make a point to distribute oral hygiene products to underserved communities.

“We’re grateful for the ability to serve,” Sona says. “It’s a privilege to help families who might not have access to quality dental care.” Their approach to life is also deeply influenced by the wisdom passed down from their parents. “My father always told me, ‘Your reputation is your most valuable asset—it takes a lifetime to build and a moment to lose,’” Sona shares. “We remind Sophie that hard work, honesty, and integrity are what truly matter.”

A Community to Call Home
For the Hatchers, Irving Park is more than just a neighborhood—it’s home in the truest sense of the word. “We love the people here,” Steven says. “It’s a friendly, welcoming place where neighbors genuinely look out for one another.” Sophie adds her own take: “Halloween candy always hits,” she jokes, highlighting one of the small but memorable joys of growing up in the neighborhood. As they continue navigating life’s challenges and joys, the Hatchers remain focused on what they hold most dear: faith, family, and making the most of every moment. “God has been great,” Sona says. “Even in our hardest times, we’ve seen grace, kindness, and support all around us. That’s something we’ll always be grateful for.”
