Poodle Power

Meet Beau and Sugar, the dynamic duo of the Lambeth household!

Life is poodle-centric for Cabell and Walter Lambeth, thanks to two fun-filled miniature poodles, Beau and Sugar. Beau, a six-year-old silver poodle, was named by Walter for Corporal LeBeau, a character from Hogan’s Heroes. Sugar, a two-year-old apricot poodle, was named by her grandmother, Margie, for her sweet demeanor.

Initially, the Lambeths were looking for a poodle for Walter’s mother to fill the void left by her previous pet. However, fate had other plans.

“We found two poodles instead of one and decided to take one of them, Cabell says. “Beau and Walter immediately bonded, making the decision easy. We joke in our family that it was love at first sight!”

The family got Sugar shortly after losing their seven-month-old poodle, Sunny. “Sugar was a much-needed bundle of love that helped heal our hearts,” the Lambeths say.

Beau and Sugar each have unique personalities. “Beau reminds us of John Travolta in Staying Alive when he walks down the street,” Cabell says. “He definitely has the same swagger!”

Both poodles love to sunbathe on the patio, but when relaxation time is over, it’s "watch out, chipmunks! Beau and Sugar are ready to chase any visiting Chips and Dales back to their burrows."

And there’s some good-natured “sibling rivalry” when Grandmother visits the Lambeth household! Beau and Sugar both adore Grandmother, and there are squabbles over who gets her attention first.

Life with Beau and Sugar is filled with never-a-dull moments. Despite weighing only eight pounds, Sugar has the attitude of a much larger dog. “She talks like she is a big dog and taunts the larger dogs,” says Walter. However, when these larger dogs respond, Sugar quickly runs to Beau for protection. “Beau is a great big brother and tolerates all her shenanigans.”

Beau, on the other hand, enjoys his mischievous adventures around the house. “Besides digging holes, Beau likes to see how far he can drag the toilet paper around the house,” Cabell laughs.

When it comes to being pampered pooches, Beau and Sugar take the cake. “We sometimes wish they were better behaved,” the Lambeths say. “We struggle with consistently disciplining them.”

But for Beau and Sugar, “spoiled rotten” is simply the result of being very well-loved pups -- just more proof of how much joy these two four-legged companions bring to the Lambeths.

“Our dogs are definitely the center of our world.”
