45 Henderson Avenue

A Legacy of Lowcountry Living

For the past 11 years, Susan Bryan Workmon has cherished her home at 45 Henderson Avenue on Isle of Hope, where she raised her three children and cultivated lifelong friendships. The Workmon family legacy spans generations, and this home has provided an ideal setting for embracing all that the Lowcountry lifestyle offers. From teaching neighborhood kids the art of shrimping, fishing, and crabbing to gathering for sunrises and sunsets at the bluff, Susan’s life on Isle of Hope is full of treasured memories.

Her home, one of the oldest on the street, has been thoughtfully expanded over the years to meet the needs of each family who lived there. The layout is especially family-friendly, with a primary bedroom and guest room on the main floor and two additional bedrooms upstairs. Susan loves the peacefulness of the screened-in porch, which overlooks a private backyard and offers a perfect spot to unwind.

The kitchen, situated on its own level, provides a functional yet private space that allows both the chef and guests to enjoy their meals without distraction. Throughout the home, art by her friend and local artist Bellamy Murphy adds a personal touch to each room. Holidays and family dinners have filled the home with warmth, although with her children grown, the gatherings have become smaller.

Dreaming of future possibilities, Susan has imagined converting the outbuilding into additional living quarters or even restoring a backyard pool once enjoyed by previous owners. She emphasizes the value of a well-designed outdoor space, which has been essential to her enjoyment of this home and the community. For Susan, Isle of Hope is not just a place to live but a true Lowcountry haven.
