Charlie the Cat
Local celebrity & neighborhood favorite
Charlie, a one-year-old American shorthair tabby, has become a familiar face around Isle of Hope since he joined Alie Heiges and her family in early 2023. Alie adopted Charlie and his late brother, George, from the Humane Society of Savannah, filling a void after the passing of her beloved Ragdoll, Ralph. With two young children at home, the arrival of these playful kittens brought new joy to the household.
Alie chose the name "Charlie" for the simple reason that human names for cats tend to bring a smile. And "King Charlie" certainly lives up to his title—he’s a social butterfly with a knack for joining neighbors on impromptu adventures, hopping into golf carts, boats, and even the occasional stranger's car! His fearless nature and love for new faces have made him a “cat about town” who never meets a stranger.
A particularly memorable afternoon for Alie was when Charlie disappeared into the trees near their yard, giving her quite the scare. Just when she thought he’d wandered off too far, she found him lounging in a hollow, calmly flicking his tail with a mischievous glint—like the Cheshire Cat come to life.
Charlie’s local hangouts include the Isle of Hope Marina and the boatyard, where he sometimes hunts for "treats" among the bushes. He loves cruising the neighborhood in the family golf cart with his best buddy, the family dog Mo, by his side. For Alie and her family, Charlie is more than a pet—he’s a true neighborhood character, bringing laughter and joy wherever he roams.
