Animal House at Live Oak

For over two decades, Animal House at Live Oak has been a trusted haven for Isle of Hope pets, owned and operated by longtime Savannah resident Daniel Sweeney. With a background in computer science, Sweeney discovered a new career path in pet care, drawn by the open air and the joy of working with animals. Established on a three-acre property, Animal House offers a range of services, from dog and cat boarding to daycare and grooming, including baths, nail trims, and ear cleanings.

In addition to boarding pets, Animal House collaborates with Coastal Pet Rescue, hosting their Camp Pawsawhile program to provide shelter and socialization for abandoned pets. Through their Social Coastal Pet program, Sweeney and his team integrate rescue animals into daycare, giving them essential social experiences and insights to help the rescue staff promote each pet’s unique traits.

The onset of COVID-19 posed a formidable challenge, with business dropping nearly 90 percent in early 2020. Yet, thanks to a loyal client base, Sweeney navigated those tough times and emerged with stronger relationships and renewed community support.

Currently, Animal House is undergoing a modest renovation, with plans to enhance outdoor play areas for the dogs. Sweeney advises pet owners to prioritize touring any boarding facility in advance to ensure it aligns with their values. For Sweeney, Animal House is more than a business; it’s a reflection of his dedication to pets and the people who love them.
