Stromboli
It's easier to make than it looks, is very tasty and filling, & can be served as a meal with a salad or as a hearty appetizer.
Whenever a close family member gets married, I create a cookbook composed of treasured recipes from friends and family of both the bride and groom. This recipe was contributed by my niece for the cookbook I compiled for my nephew (her brother) and his wife when he got married. If you want to get fancy, you can cut out shape(s) out of the dough and place on top prior to brushing with egg white. I like to grate my own cheese, rather than pre-shredded.
Ingredients:
-1 loaf of frozen bread dough (found in the freezer section of grocery store)
-1/4 tsp. salt, garlic powder, pepper, oregano, parsley and dry mustard
-1/4 C. olive oil
-1 egg yolk
-1 egg white
-Sliced pepperoni
-12 oz. browned sausage
-Shredded mozarella
-Diced ham
-Jar or marinara sauce
Instructions:
1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Thaw the dough in the refrigerator, NOT on the counter or it will rise too much. When thawed, roll out dough (adding flour as needed) to about 11x14.
3. Combine egg yolk, spices and olive oil and brush on dough. Cover with sliced pepperoni and browned sausage, then shredded mozzarella, then diced ham.
4. Roll up from long side like a jelly roll and pinch seam together.
5. Place on a greased cookie sheet, seam side down. Brush top with egg white and sprinkle with parsley and oregano.
6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until crust is brown.
7. Slice into 1-inch slices. Serve with marinara sauce to dip in.
