Bryce Rader and family
From asset protection and estate planning to probate and trustee services, Anderson, Dorn & Rader (AD&R) has been helping families in Northern Nevada meet their goals for over 28 years.
Estate Planning can be daunting, as each circumstance is unique and requires different tools to achieve the best possible outcome. AD&R simplifies the estate planning process and works closely with each individual to determine the best way to structure their plan to fit their needs. The law firm's attorneys, Jerry Dorn, Bryce Rader, Aaron Squires, and Ryan Stodtmeister, know that considering personal situations, family relationships, and values is critical when helping clients reach personal and business goals.
Managing shareholder, Jerry Dorn, joined the firm shortly after it was founded in 1997. Jerry decided to dedicate his professional life to estate planning after witnessing the personal grief and financial loss suffered by several of his clients due to poor planning. He has an impressive 26-year-long law career. He has served families and business owners in designing and implementing estate, tax, business, and asset protection planning strategies. Jerry maintains a very active lifestyle outside of the office and enjoys weight training, skiing, and spending time with his wife, Kristen, and three children, Alyssa, Jason, and Rylee.
Bryce Rader, a partner, and shareholder of the law firm, began practicing law at AD&R in 2003 after working in the Governor's office as Deputy Chief Ombudsman for Consumer Health Assistance. He is a frequent lecturer on topics such as Disability Planning, Probate, Guardianship, and Trust Administration. As a fourth-generation Nevadan, Bryce has an intense love for his native state and the outdoors. He enjoys spending time with his family and volunteering with his church and the Boy Scouts of America.
In 2005, Aaron Squires joined the practice. He is an attorney, CPA, CFP, and shareholder with the law firm. He works on the most complex client estate plans to achieve the best results given the client's goals while minimizing estate taxes and maximizing family legacies for future generations. Aaron is a native Nevadan and enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, biking, and skiing with his wife Kala and children Scarlett and Caroline in the Lake Tahoe region.
Ryan Stodtmeister has been an associate with ADR since 2019 and became a shareholder on January 1st, 2023. Ryan has been integral to the firm's success over the past few years, demonstrating a strong work ethic and dedication to providing exceptional client service. Ryan is a third-generation Nevadan and is proud to raise his family of three with his wife, Whitney, in their hometown Reno. He enjoys skiing at Mt. Rose in the winter and wake surfing or fishing out on Pyramid Lake in the summer.
The attorneys of AD&R emphasize education because far too many people have misconceptions about wills and trusts. Their goal is to educate their clients with the most up-to-date estate planning information and strategies. This is why they offer free monthly in-person and online workshops to teach and guide people on planning appropriately for the inevitable. They cover many estate planning topics, such as revocable and irrevocable trusts, probate, and how to protect your estate if you become incapacitated. "Our mission is to empower families and individuals to make important decisions by taking action to ensure that their loved ones are protected when death or incapacity strikes," says Dorn. "We provide our clients with quality estate planning resources so they can become familiar with all of the existing options."
The law firm recommends reviewing an estate plan every three years or after defining life events such as asset changes, births of children or grandchildren, or a spouse's death. As life changes, the terms of your estate plan may no longer reflect your wishes. "We want to make sure your plan works when it is needed most, so we offer free review meetings to ensure your plan reflects any changes that have occurred in your personal life, your finances, or any relevant tax laws or estate planning laws," says Squires. A carefully constructed and updated estate plan can make a world of difference to clients seeking to reduce their estate tax exposure and pass assets on to their loved ones in the most efficient manner.
One reason there's a sense of urgency for wealthy families to manage their estates is a nearly $13 million gift and estate tax exemption that helps transfer wealth to the next generation. As of now, this exemption will decrease to about $5 million in 2025 with adjustments for inflation. Even if you don't have a vast estate or own a lot of assets right now, having an estate plan in place is still important. It allows you to ensure your loved ones and your legacy are both set up for the future. Failing to plan means the state will decide what happens to your assets upon passing. Choosing how to distribute your estate fairly among your loved ones can be challenging. Avoiding family disputes regarding property and keepsakes can be accomplished through estate planning. Ultimately, you don't want your family fighting over your personal possessions after your death. An estate plan can help you avoid most of the challenges of distributing an estate.
