Meet the new head coach of Greensburg Central Catholic High School’s Football Team, John “JT” Thompson. Coach Thompson comes to GCC with 22 years of experience coaching college football, mainly as a defensive coordinator.
His coaching career started at his alma mater, Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY. After Marist, JT coached at Saint Francis University. He then spent the remainder of his college career as a defensive coordinator at Sacred Heart University, Mercyhurst University, Saint Vincent College, and Gannon University.
Although he spent the past few years away from the college level, JT was never far away from the football field. After moving back to the area, JT helped to coach the Westmoreland Saints, a K-8 development youth flag and tackle football program. However, he saw the opportunity to coach at GCC as once in a lifetime.
The Centurions finished their first season under Coach Thompson with a 8-4 record and the school’s first playoff win in over 12 years. Coach Thompson is more excited than ever to continue the boys’ hard work throughout the off season with an impressive strength and condition program from FSQ Sports Training and come back this fall stronger than ever.
Coach Thompson has lived in the Glen Aire neighborhood with his wife, Sarah, and their three children Ryan, Joey, and Libby for five years. When he isn’t busy balancing his full-time job as a Sales Representative for Spring Cove Container Company and the football life, he enjoys golfing, volunteering at his children’s school, Christ the Divine Teacher School, and spending time with his family.
The 2024 Centurion Football schedule is to be determined and will be available on the GCC Football Facebook Page as well as the school’s athletic calendar at gcchs.org/school-calendar.
