After spending years in the beauty industry and working at Platinum Salon & Spa for five years, Heidi Hamo decided to purchase the business. The transition from employee to business owner wasn’t easy, but that couldn’t stop Heidi.

“In 2019, I had the opportunity to buy the salon,” Heidi says. “It was challenging, but I love what I do, and I love this business. I truly have a family here.”

Heidi’s passion for her work and dedication to her team is evident in Platinum Salon & Spa’s success. The salon’s slogan is “escape the ordinary,” and Heidi’s business offers a wide array of services to help clients do just that.

In addition hair care, lash and brow, nail and makeup services, Platinum Salon & Spa offers massage therapy and unique state-of-the-art facial treatments such as triLift dynamic muscle stimulation and radio frequency (RF) microneedling. 

“We try to be a one-stop shop, in a sense. Here, you can get your nails done, get your hair done and spend time in the spa,” Heidi says. “We are always looking for state-of-the-art services. RF microneedling is a new, up-and-coming service that tightens the skin without any downtime. But we’re also always here for anybody who just wants to come get a haircut and massage.”

Heidi and her employees aim to make Platinum Salon & Spa a relaxing, refreshing experience for all of their clients. The business has a 4.7 star rating on Yelp, Facebook and Google, and clients say they come back again and again because of the salon and spa’s stellar service.

“I love my job. When I’m not here, I miss my people, my clients, and I just love hearing them say, ‘I love the way you made me feel,’” Heidi says. “To be able to make someone smile, to hear that we made them feel good, that’s why I do what I do. We want everyone who comes in here to take care of themselves and relax. And we’re grateful to be able to have the opportunity to provide them with that.”

Heidi still works alongside her staff in addition to running the business and says she enjoys getting to know her clients.

“Here, you’re not just a name. We know our clients. We’re very welcoming, and we never forget who comes through our doors,” she says. “Our staff, even our front desk person, knows everyone’s names and will ask how they’re doing, how’s their job, their dog, their kids. Every person is treated as family here.”

Heidi spends time in the community getting to know her neighbors as well. She attends local non-profit and fundraising events in her spare time, such as Inspired Women Westmoreland.

“I love going to different events that are woman-centered. I find a lot of power there, and I love giving back to the community through fundraising,” she says. “For example, we sponsor a little league team, but it’s not about PR, it’s about the kids in our community. I love when I can donate to a cause or fundraise for one, because if we don’t take care of our own and support our neighborhood, who will?”

Platinum Salon & Spa is just another way for Heidi to support her neighbors and invest in her community. Heidi knows how important self-care is and is honored to provide her clients with services that make them happy. 

“I always tell my staff, no matter what you do, those clients could go somewhere else,” Heidi says. “So what sets us apart? What makes a good technician? What makes us worth spending your hard-earned money on? I truly believe our services, our staff and our atmosphere are what keeps our clients coming back. We’re all very laid back, kind women just working to help others smile.”
