Jack Mattingly Shines on the World Stage

From Backyard Baseball to Team USA Gold

For the Mattingly family of Louisville, KY, this fall was anything but ordinary. They packed their bags, passports in hand, and set off on their first-ever international adventure to Panama City, Panama. The reason? To cheer on 12-year-old Jack Mattingly as he represented Team USA in the 12U Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier!

Jack, a sixth-grader at Echo Trail Middle School, was one of just 18 players selected for the prestigious USA Baseball 12U National Team—and the only player from Kentucky to earn this honor. Serving as the team’s first baseman, Jack batted 3rd and 4th in the lineup and quickly became a standout player. His impressive stats earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team, and his contributions helped Team USA bring home the gold with a thrilling 14-7 victory over the Dominican Republic.

From Backyard Dreams to Team USA
Jack’s baseball journey began when he was just four years old, playing in the backyard with his dad, Nick. Over the years, his dedication and love for the game only grew. At the start of 2024, Jack created a vision board filled with big goals—two of which he’s already checked off: being selected for the 11U Perfect Game Select Fest and making the USA Baseball 12U National Team.

His journey to Team USA was no small feat. After standing out at the Futures Invitational Tournament in June, Jack earned an invitation to the USA Baseball training camp. Out of 36 players, he advanced to the final 18-man roster that competed in Panama.
“Having the opportunity to play for USA Baseball was something special,” Jack shared. “I made lifelong friends and learned from amazing coaches and mentors. I’ll always be grateful for this experience—it taught me what it means to be an uncommon person and to have a gold medal mentality.”

A Family of Achievers
The Mattinglys are no strangers to hard work and teamwork. Nick (41) and Ashley (39) have called Lake Forest home for over a decade, and their three kids are as active as they are ambitious. Jack plays baseball for the Louisville Tomahawks and The Show National Team, basketball for Echo Trail, and swims for the Lake Forest swim team. His younger siblings, Kate (9) and Ryan (7), keep busy with their own activities, creating a family dynamic where everyone supports each other’s dreams.

Looking Ahead
Even with a gold medal around his neck, Jack isn’t slowing down. He’s already working toward his 2025 goals, balancing school, sports, and family life with impressive discipline—most nights, he’s in bed by 9 p.m. His sights are set on attending St. X High School, where no doubt, he’ll continue to excel both on and off the field.

Jack’s story is a testament to what hard work, dedication, and family support can achieve. From backyard baseball to an international stage, this young athlete is living proof that big dreams really do come true.
