Home Runs and High Spirits: Jordan and Brian Johnston's Adventure

After a chance meeting in Austin six years ago, Jordan Stepp (Johnston) and Brian Johnston, with their 3½ year old son Hayes, now call the M Streets home.

A DFW native and proud Red Raider, Jordan graduated from Texas Tech University and enjoyed a successful decade-long career in Medical Sales before pursuing her passion in real estate. Now as a local agent with Joe Atkins Realty, she is focused on fostering connections and building lasting relationships within the M Streets and East Dallas communities.

Brian is a University of Florida alum and equally proud Gator, who has worked for Major League Baseball since graduating. For the last 15 years he has been a Scout for the Toronto Blue Jays with stints in Florida, Louisiana, and California before settling in Texas.

Inevitably, the couple are big college and professional sports fans. Visitors will see both college flags flying in their front yard. “We may be a house divided, but never miss opening day for the Blue Jays at Globe Life field where Mom is sporting her Rangers attire and Dad’s decked out in Toronto Blue. “We watch a lot of Baseball, but football is still King! No shortage of love for our Cowboys and Bucs, Rangers and Blue Jays, and the Red Raiders and Gators,” Jordan explains.

Hayes is already active in sports, playing soccer at his school, Zion Lutheran, where his parents are members of the Parent-Teacher League.

2023 was a busy year for them all, with Jordan and Brian planning their NYE wedding which took place at the Adolphus and moving to a new M Streets home this January. Now the couple are excited to join the Geneva Heights Elementary community this coming Fall.

This social family loves sharing their advice with families new to the area, starting with the dining options. “It's a very walkable neighborhood with great bars and restaurants, and new spots opening all the time.” They have a number of neighborhood faves including Terillis, Chelseas, and Halcyon, but our family go-to has to be The Old Monk. “With great bar food, relaxed atmosphere and dog/kid friendly patio – what more do you need! And everyone should check out Lower Greenville - the culinary scene has a diverse mix of entertainment and outdoor activities, perfect for everything from family outings to date nights.”

For outdoor family time, they stress the many parks and green spaces. If you're asking Hayes - It’s a 50/50 split between Tietze & Glencoe to burn off his 3-yr-old energy! For an elevated park night, we head to Klyde Warren’s green space for Mambos and music outdoors.

Jordan and Brian highlight the community events throughout the year, in particular the Arboretum’s annual ‘Cool Thursdays Concert Series,' where they meet-up with friends and family for music on the lawn. When they want to venture out – this family heads West to the FW Stockyards for the daily cattle drive or checks out of the Fort Worth Zoo.

As a young family, our traditions are evolving. One we stay true to is our annual Cape Cod Summer League trip, where we cruise the Cape with Dad looking for the next Vlad Guerrero! As much as they love travel, this family loves being home too. “Brian’s role keeps him away until the Draft (Jan-July), so spending time together at home as a family is what we look forward to!” Which they plan to do even more of this Summer from the pool in their new backyard.

“This area is the perfect blend of urban convenience and cultural richness, with a built-in sense of community,” Jordan concludes, “it’s a place where you actually know your neighbors and take pride in your community. For us, this has become a unique and ideal place to call home.”
