Meet Bentley: The World’s Finest Dog!
An Ode to Luxury
Tell us about yourself, Bentley. Let’s start with my name being an homage to the world’s finest luxury car. Therefore I, by association, am the world’s finest dog - just to set the record straight. I am 11 years old in dog years and 78 in human years. My mistress and benefactor, Madeline, is almost 80 years old in human years, and 11.5 in dog years. So, we go together like jam and toast, bangers and mash, tea and crumpets. The fact that I now find myself relegated to the 2nd seat of her bright blue Subaru suits this 26-pound old man just fine. Plus, I’m so low to the ground I don’t think I could even get into a Bentley!
What are you known for, Bentley? For being extremely congenial! What I lack in personal pizzaz, I more than make up for with the help of my social entourage. I indeed have quite the caucus of canine friends & acquaintances – and I get along great with them all. Let’s see, there’s Greg’s dog, Elon the retriever, the large and friendly Australian Shepard next door, the German Shepard down the street, Zoey the tiniest dog I’ve ever seen, and the Spaniel at the end of the block, Miss Daisy. Then there’s the French Bull Dog, Madeline’s son’s two dogs: one of which is a space-cadet, the other, a lab. But most importantly, there’s my all-time best mate, Gus, a black poodle. He comes over to stay with me while his mom goes to work. Every day he rushes in to greet me like a bull in a china shop and that tells me all I need to know about our friendship.
What is the story behind your breed? I like to think of myself as canine-fluid. I try to avoid Boomer revealing headlines, such as “Mutt.” With my varied blood line, I imagine I’ve inherited all the best traits of the dog world. I do however have one little ‘character’ defining feature - my crooked bottom teeth. But since I’m rather going for that King Charles look, all is well.
Any special or unusual talents?
I do like to practice my bark on the regular. There doesn’t need to be a reason, a special time of day nor person or animal present. I’m just practicing for good measure. When rehearsals are over, I come back inside and go check on Gus.

Any funny stories?
Miss Madeline loves the way I keep my front feet in ‘first position’ - heel to heel and toes pointed out East-West. Sometimes I move them from first to ‘second position,’ just to vary my pose and be ready for any potential photo-ops.

Anything else you'd like to share? I love it when Miss Madeline takes me for a ride early each morning in the Subaru. She rolls down the windows for me, and I hang my head out the window. I love this part of our day! Then off we go to Home Depot, Pet Smart, Ace Hardware, or just out for a drive. If she ever has to leave me alone in the house, she always puts on dog videos on YouTube for me. I’d say that’s a sign of true love.
