Waffles the Snuggle Doodle

What’s your origin story, Waffles?
I am currently 5 ½ years old, but as a young pup of only 9 weeks, Ainslie & Chas retrieved me from Doodle Rock Rescue. This nonprofit rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes abused, neglected, and abandoned poodle mixes from all over the United States, even though they are based here in Dallas, TX. They are 100% volunteer-based and run completely on donations. I’d say that’s pretty exceptional.   https://doodlerockrescue.org/drr/our-mission/

What is the story behind your breed? Golden Doodles were introduced in the 1990s, and so we are relatively new on the scene. We’re a hybrid between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. This means we’re friendly, low shedding, good with people, stately and of course, devastatingly good looking. A few words to sum us up best would be, designer, social, exceptional, best in class. Look for me in Paper City or D Magazine’s ‘Best of’ editions.

Any proud moment? Definitely! I can proudly say that I once caught a squirrel – which is the human equivalent to getting a hole-in-one on the golf course - only much harder.

Any special or unusual talents/quirks? I kinda have a sweet tooth. I once discovered and devoured a whole tray of pastries. Another time I found, opened, and ate all 25 squares of chocolate out of the Advent Calendar. That was my Christmas present to me. I did not however, like the makes-you-vomit medicine I had to take afterwards. I was not so proud of that moment.

Favorite Activities? Laying out in the sun when the AC gets too intense inside. Playing ‘Chase 8’ (chase played in a figure 8 pattern) with mom and dad in the front yard. But best of all is vacationing in Taos, NM. I love to go for a hike in the woods or mountains after the long car ride there. Can’t wait to get my Rocky Mountain High on!

What’s your exercise routine, Waffles? Twice a day, I let mom and/or dad accompany me on a walk. We stroll around the neighborhood or go over to Glencoe Park. Additionally, I know exactly where all of my canine friends live and I make sure we stop by each of their houses on each walk.  I go straight up to the front door and begin barking away. I find this so much more effective than using a doorbell.

What else should we know about you Waffles, and how have you enriched your home/family? I always look forward to family TV time – it’s my golden opportunity to snuggle up on the couch with the fam and receive my minimum daily requirement of pets, hugs and snuggles. I really don’t care what’s showing on NetFlix as long as I’m sofa surfing with mom, dad & the kiddos.
