The Fearless Flyer

Tell us about your name, Ella Bee.  It’s a special name just like me, and I love it.  I am beautiful like an Ella and busy like a bee. Ella Bee – totally me.

What is the story behind you & your breed? I am a two-year-old, full bred, registered Yorkshire Terrier. All 6.5 microscopic pounds of me. Most Yorkies are grey and gold but I’m what’s known as a “Parti Yorkie” - because my colors are part black and part white. Lisa says it’s because I’m part lovebug and part busy bee.

Terriers were at one time called Ratters because we could famously and expertly locate (and then dislocate) rats and other small animals in mines or in industrial buildings. But then we began to be noticed for our luxurious human-like hair, and we went from being a hunter’s companion, to M’lady’s lap dog. What a great career move!
Any funny stories? Yes, here’s a great example of how fun I am. Let’s begin with when I first met Lisa and Bo, then at my featherweight of a mere 1.5 lbs! ... I bounded, no FLEW across the room to meet them, carefully clinching a stuffed mouse between my teeth. It was love at first flight for all of us. These days you will not see me without some kind of toy in my mouth, whether it is a plastic plumbing piece, an avocado pit, a clip chip or even a screwdriver. Did someone say oral fixation? Yep, that sounds right. Sometimes I take ALL the toys out, scatter them ALL over the house - then launch into my Terrier-stung-by-a-Bee mode. It’s my happy place.

Now here’s a story about my fearlessness. Last year, while vacationing in Los Angeles, I decided to try a FlyAway move from chair A to chair B. Unfortunately, I did not stick the landing as intended and instead fell short and wound up at the VCA clinic. After x-rays, a quick surgery and a pin in my shin, they sent me home with a cast on my leg and mentioned something about ‘bed rest’. Well, that never happened. My playtime continued as per-usual and per-often, just with a cute pink cast as an added accessory.

Any special or unusual talents? Yes, I am keenly observant. I silently observe as Mom folds the laundry, gaze upon a newly bloomed flower, linger over a baby in its stroller, wondering why it’s crying. My silent presence is my way of sending out good vibrations and positive puppy love. It’s what I do.

Favorite Activities? My all-time fav pastime is to dunk my miniature soccer balls in the water bowl until they are soaking wet and then throw them down the hallway and watch as the water spews out in all directions.Mom and dad are CRAZY about this little activity of mine.

What else should we know about you Miss Busy Bee, and how have you enriched your home & family? When I get back into my mellow-mode, Mom will take me out in her Louis Vuitton handbag and sometimes we go to one of my favorite places, Abby’s Bagels. By the way, I just adore the handbag and even hang out in it at home, just so I can increase my cuteness quotient for the day. But my main goal in life is to give and receive love, happiness and good times.  And it is my personal life’s mission to practice every day with Lisa and Bo.
