Twelfth Annual Mapleton Hill PorchFest Delightfully Concludes on Sunday, Sept. 22
Music, Community, and Culture Celebrated on a Sunny September Afternoon

Mapleton Hill came alive once again with the sounds of live music, community spirit, and autumn charm as the Twelfth Annual Mapleton Hill PorchFest took place on Sunday, September 22, from 12 noon to 4 P.M. The event, a beloved neighborhood tradition, saw its largest turnout yet, with 38 porches and 55 bands performing—a 33% increase from last year—and an estimated 1,800 attendees.
The festival kicked off at noon with the new “Set Zero” at 541 Highland, featuring live music, prizes for attendees, a live broadcast by KGNU, and a welcome from Mayor Aaron Brockett. This opening segment set the stage for the afternoon’s festivities, sparking energy and enthusiasm among the crowd.
Following Set Zero, three musical sets began at 1 P.M., showcasing both returning PorchFest favorites like Rex Peoples & Xfactr, Howling Commandos, and Boulder Brassaholics, as well as a host of new local talent, including Poorfree, The Speeks, and d’Lovelies. The performers delighted the audience with a wide array of genres, including classic jazz, rock, folk, and Americana, ensuring something for everyone.
This year’s event was made possible through the generosity of Mapleton Hill’s residents, who volunteered their porches and yards, and the support of 11 community sponsors. Four popular food trucks were stationed at 4th and Maxwell, providing delicious offerings to the crowd throughout the day.
Founded in 2011, Mapleton Hill PorchFest has grown into a cherished annual event inspired by the original PorchFest in Ithaca, New York. This year’s PorchFest built upon its tradition of community-building and musical celebration, drawing a record number of attendees.
Looking ahead, the Organizing Committee will reconvene in February-March to set a date for PorchFest 13 in 2025 and begin planning for another successful event. Interested bands and porch hosts are encouraged to sign up now by visiting the event website at mapletonhillporchfest.com.
With the sun shining and music filling the air, Mapleton Hill PorchFest 2024 was a day to remember, marking another successful chapter in this uniquely Boulder celebration.
