The Holland Family

Family, church and community involvement certainly sums up the Holland family. Michael and Florence moved their family to Auburn six years ago but moved to Moore's Mill in July 2021. They were looking for a home that provided space to relocate her parents to live with them but still allowed them their freedom. Their home on Moore's Mill Drive provided the perfect place. In addition, the Hollands have three active boys that keep everyone on the move!

Michael was born and raised in Tuskegee, so coming back to Auburn was like coming home. He has a Bachelor of Science from Florida A&M and a Master of Science from Virginia Tech, both in mechanical engineering. He is currently a professional engineer with Sherlock, Smith and Adams Engineering. His community involvement includes being a Boy Scout leader and the chairman of the deacon ministry at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church. In addition, Michael continues to give back to his home community by serving as father's auxiliary chair for Jack and Jill of America Inc., Tuskegee Chapter, and serving as a member of the Tuskegee Chamber of Commerce. He wants to impact the community where they live, so he has also volunteered to serve on the Moore's Mill HOA. Michael enjoys remote control cars and working out as much as possible.

Florence hales from Baltimore and received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Virginia Tech. She continued her education, receiving a MAED in K-12 administration from Ball State University, an EMBA from Auburn University and an EdD in higher education administration from Argosy University at Sarasota. Florence is also certified as a diversity professional from Cornell University. Currently, she is the director of culture, diversity and inclusion at RSM.

Florence loves baking and reading, but her commitment to the community is her passion. She currently serves as vice president/president-elect (2021–2023) to Auburn City Schools PTO and the vice president of the Auburn High School PTO. Florence is also the Southeastern regional treasurer of Jack and Jill of America Inc., as well as the treasurer of both the Ostara Initiative/Alabama Prison Birth Project and Lee County Remembrance Project. Additionally, Florence serves their church, Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church, as the office administrator, choir director and church clerk.

Michael and Florence both enjoy music, including 1990s R&B and gospel.
Even with their active lifestyles, Michael and Florence’s No. 1 commitment is their three boys, Michael Jr. (18), Miles (15) and Major (12). All three boys sing in the choir at church and serve as youth ushers there. In addition, they enjoy Boy Scouts and participate in Troop 170. where their dad is a leader. They are all members of Jack and Jill of America Inc., Tuskegee Chapter.

Michael Jr. graduated in May from Auburn High School, where he belonged to the Korean Club while also working at Chick-fil-A in Tiger Town. Michael will attend Auburn University in the fall, majoring in international studies. Like all teens, Michael loves hanging out with friends, but he is also interested in Japanese culture and cuisine. In addition, he loves anything anime (Japanese film and TV animation) and anything Marvel. His favorite music artist is Kendrick Lamar.

Miles will be a junior at Auburn High School in the fall. He participates in varsity track and field as a long and triple jumper. During his free time, he enjoys drawing, painting and cooking. However, building large Lego sets and playing video games are favorites. Like his brother, he likes anime, but his favorite music is top 20 pop.

Major will be in seventh grade at East Samford Middle School this fall. Major's interests include black belt karate (he has earned his first-degree black belt), reading, drawing and playing the guitar and drums. He also enjoys watching the Cartoon Network, and his favorite musicians are Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars.

The Holland family loves traveling together. Birthdays and holidays are big celebrations, and they enjoy hosting family and friends in their home on these occasions.

When asked what they enjoy about living in Moore's Mill, Florence shared, "We love that our neighborhood is safe and friendly. This home provides us an opportunity to live multigenerationally, and we are so thankful for that. We’re also excited about how we can continue to engage in the neighborhood and the Auburn community."
