Revolutionary War Days
Components of gunpowder
Earlier this fall, Mike Sigmon went to the annual Revolutionary War Days event at the Captain Roger McDowell house at Quaker Meadows in Morganton to enjoy the festival! This land is notable because a group of men met on the grounds under a large oak tree to plan their next steps in the war for independence. These men became known as the Overmountain Men. Those next steps culminated in the Battle of King's Mountain, which was a major turning point in the war.
The house itself was built after the war in 1812 and is a fine example of antebellum architecture. It is open to the public with the proper advance notice and is also available for events. email historicburke@gmail.com if interested.
