Stems for Seniors
Flowers from a wedding ready for delivery at Lifecare Alliance.
The Davis family of Wedgewood (Todd, Nancy, Meggie, Luke) started Stems For Seniors a few years ago with the mission of spreading joy through the gift of flowers. According to Todd “the concept was, and still is, pretty simple – we pick up flowers from large events (primarily weddings) at the event venue, repurpose the florals into individual bouquets, and then deliver these bouquets to local seniors and others in need of a pick-me-up.”
When the Davis family started this family project, they didn’t realize just how appealing this idea would be to brides throughout the Central Ohio area. What started with a couple of friends and family weddings has turned into a full-fledged non-profit operation that received flower donations from over 80 events and created/delivered over 3,000 bouquets in 2022 alone! Nancy notes “when the volume quickly became more than our family could handle, we recruited our friends to help, many of them Wedgewood residents themselves. We have 25-30 awesome volunteers who we call the ‘Bouquet Brigade’ and, without them, none of this would be possible!”
Stems for Seniors regularly delivers bouquets to Lifecare Alliance (who distributes them to Meals on Wheels recipients and Columbus Cancer Center patients), Kobacker Hospice House, and multiple Senior Living / Assisted Living homes throughout the area. These deliveries always bring joy, smiles, and sometimes even tears to the recipients and to those making the donations and the deliveries alike! As Todd told us “This is the best part of what we do and what makes it all worthwhile. Our recipients are so appreciative of this little act of kindness and it is cool to know that we are delivering happiness with each bouquet!”
