Terri Wubben: A Lifelong Learner and Community Pillar in Murrysville

Terri Wubben has been a neighbor in Murrysville for 41 years. At 65 years old, she is an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and a physical therapist by profession. Terri also does consulting in healthcare compliance.

At the age of 42, Terri graduated from Carnegie Mellon with the highest distinction of a master’s degree in Public Management, while working full-time, with a husband and two preteen children. She went straight from work to Pitt night classes but says she “heavily relied on a good partner, Tom, who was in charge of the children and home at that time.” Twenty years had lapsed since she had graduated from college, making it even more of a challenge.

In 2010, Terri had the opportunity to visit Haiti during the recovery from the devastating earthquake. Getting ready to go and work as a physical therapist there for 10 days, she wanted to take as many medical supplies as she could. Mother of Sorrows Church gave her $200 from their Mother Teresa Outreach Program. She says the outpouring of goodness and generosity from local individuals and businesses was heartwarming. Everywhere she went trying to purchase equipment, dressings, and vitamins, no one would accept her money. She said it was like the loaves and fishes; the goodness just kept on multiplying. Going to Haiti and seeing the results of the earthquake on the residents was overwhelming. Coming back home from such an event has given her a profound sense of gratitude.

Terri is always on the go and recently started taking Taekwondo. She loves learning a new skill for physical and emotional growth. She is a member of the Murrysville Library Board. She has five grandchildren whom she enjoys chasing and spending time with. She took classes at Phipps Conservatory for floral arrangement and enjoys arranging flowers. Her love of flowers came from the beautiful flower gardens of her husband, Tom, and she enjoys spending time working outside with him. This beautiful lady has a motto she lives by: Seize the day and enjoy yourself!
