Turning Plastic into Purpose

Murrysville-Export Rotary Club's Innovative Bench Project Beautifies and Unites Community

The Murrysville-Export Rotary Club's initiative to collect plastic for repurposing into public benches is a commendable example of community service and environmental sustainability. By setting up collection points throughout Murrysville and Export, they make it convenient for residents to participate in this recycling effort.

The types of plastic being collected, including plastic film, stretch wrap, and shopping bags, are often not accepted in regular recycling programs, so this project addresses a significant waste issue. The placement of eight benches in six locations not only beautifies the area but also serves as a tangible reminder of the community's commitment to sustainability.

This project is part of the Murrysville-Export Rotary's broader commitment to 'Service Above Self,' a motto that encapsulates their 78 years of community service. Their diverse range of activities, from the Ocktoberfest celebration to supporting the Franklin Regional School District through a backpack program, collecting for the food bank, and participating as bell ringers for the Salvation Army's red kettle drive, shows a deep dedication to various aspects of community well-being.

Such initiatives are vital for fostering a sense of community, promoting environmental responsibility, and supporting local needs. It's inspiring to see organizations like the Murrysville-Export Rotary Club leading by example in making a positive impact in their community.
