Honoring Veterans

Honoring Our Heroes: Veterans Appreciation Breakfast in Murrysville
On Saturday, October 19, veterans from the 55th Legislative District, including Murrysville, Export, Delmont, and the surrounding areas, gathered for a heartfelt event at the Lamplighter Restaurant. The Veterans Appreciation Breakfast, hosted by PA State Representative Jill Cooper, was a moving tribute to the men and women who have selflessly served our country.
The morning was filled with camaraderie, warm conversations, and a deep sense of gratitude. Veterans had the opportunity to connect with each other, share stories, and reflect on their time in service, surrounded by those who truly understand the weight of their sacrifices.

Two distinguished speakers, Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler, the adjutant general of Pennsylvania, and retired Rear Adm. John Meier, delivered inspiring remarks. Both reflected on the significance of supporting veterans, not just in words but through actionable programs and resources that assist them as they transition from military to civilian life. They emphasized the importance of community involvement and the collective responsibility of ensuring veterans have access to the resources they need for their well-being.

RISE Up for Vets 5K: Run for a Cause on the Westmoreland Heritage Trail
On November 10th, the community has another opportunity to show appreciation for our veterans by joining RISE: Veterans in their first annual RISE Up for Vets 5K on the beautiful Westmoreland Heritage Trail. This event offers participants a meaningful way to honor veterans, first responders, and their families, with all proceeds going toward programs that support these local heroes.

The RISE Up for Vets 5K is not just about raising money—it's about making a difference in the lives of those who have dedicated themselves to serving and protecting our country and communities. Sponsored by Wye Beer Co. and Gateway Hospice, the event reflects the community's commitment to supporting veterans and first responders, ensuring they have access to critical services and programs that help them transition to civilian life and cope with the unique challenges they face.

Whether you're a runner, walker, or just looking to support a great cause, the 5K is open to all. Participants are encouraged to run or walk in honor of a veteran or first responder in their life, creating a personal connection to the cause. It’s a meaningful way to show appreciation for their service and sacrifices, especially as we approach Veterans Day.
