From the Olympics to Roman Ruins: A Summer Journey Across Europe
The McCoy and Walker families turned a playful idea into an unforgettable adventure, combining the 2024 Olympics in Paris with the culture and flavors of Florence and Rome.
What destination did you visit? When were you there?
Paris, France for the 2024 Summer Olympics and then Florence and Rome, Italy
Who went with you? How long did you stay?
The McCoy and Walker Families - 8 days
Is there a special reason you chose this location?
Summer Olympics! We started planning this adventure 3 years ago while watching the 2020/21 Olympics. This all started out as a joke but quickly snowballed into reality.
What activities did you do while on vacation?
We watched Beach Volleyball and Soccer at the Olympics. We also went on a wine tour through Tuscany and visited the Roman ruins in Rome.
Did you try any special food or cuisine?
Lots of espresso martinis, escargo, truffles, amazing steaks in Florence and lots of wine!
What was the most unexpected thing that happened on your trip?
Apparently, Italy was expecting an unusually hot summer. So between the Evian water mists, battery operated fans, and lots of sunscreen, we sweated our way through visiting some of the most amazing ruins at the coluseum and then went searching for wine and AC!
What was your favorite part of the vacation?
The energy at the Olympics was palpable everywhere we went. We had so much fun visiting several different country's Hospitality Houses, learning about each country and their traditions and watching the games together. Canada house was our favorite! And a wine tour through Tuscany?!!
That was a bucket list check off that will always be cherished!!
Would you go back? Any advice you have for someone else traveling to the region?
100%! Going on this vacation with our best friends was a dream! But if you go, skip the summer months!
