Cultivating Community: Amelia’s Passion for Gardening and Service with the Frisco Garden Club
As the Communications Chair of the Frisco Garden Club, a long-standing civic organization, and mother to young volunteer Amelia, this family is dedicated to beautifying Frisco while fostering a love for gardening and community service. Here’s how they are
Non-Profit Name or Cause
Frisco Garden Club- As the oldest civic organization in the city of Frisco, the Frisco Garden Club and its members work hard to beautify the city and provide public outreach.
Our projects include:
Beautification
Education
Water Conservation
Community Service
Who are the members of your family? Are they involved in volunteering too?
I currently hold the position of Communications Chair while my daughter Amelia volunteers her time to help take care of the Smith-Muse Garden at the Frisco Heritage Center.
How long have you been involved? What does your volunteer work include?
Amelia and I have been supporting the club for almost a year. My role is to manage the group communication plan and technologies while Amelia supports with gardening efforts such as plantings, watering, weeding and proper identification and labelling of plants.
How can others get involved in this organization?
The organization is always looking for new members to get involved with volunteer work, donations and participation in one of our many events. No contribution is too small. Individuals can navigate to our website to learn more.
Why did you choose this particular non-profit or cause?
I have loved gardening for many years and was looking for expertise on gardening in Texas and information on native plantings. When I came across Frisco Garden Club I found not only a thriving organization that provided education, but opportunities for community service in which I could include my children. Amelia took to the organization immediately and has enjoyed the work.
How long have you lived in the neighborhood? What made you move to the neighborhood? What is your favorite part of living in the neighborhood?
Our family relocated back to Texas 3 years ago. We landed on Newman Village because we were looking for a neighborhood where our kids could ride their bikes to school and feel part of a growing community. We have not been disappointed!
Anything else you would like to include?
I believe teaching kids to garden and
be a part of making our community beautiful will teach the value of hard work and that everyone can make a difference. And per Amelia "Taking part of FGC has made me want to help out in our community more."
