In Memory of Furball
When & where did you adopt your pet?
Furball was an older Stonehurst Riding Center barn cat who befriended us shortly after we moved into our previous home in 2017. Our home was adjacent to the horse farm, so she frequently trotted through the horse field to visit us.
What made you decide to make your home your pets forever home?
The more Furball visited us, the more we fell in love with her. She was so sweet and well-mannered that during the frigid winter months, we brought her in at night so that she wouldn't have to sleep in the barn. We let her out to go home whenever she desired, but she always came back. Over time, we took care of her more & more as if she were our own. She guarded our front porch & when she was in our backyard, she watched her barn home from afar, visiting it occasionally. When we decided to move to our Norton Commons home, the horse farm allowed us to bring Furball with us. We are extremely grateful that they let us adopt her.
How did your pet get his/her name?
We assume that the horse farm named her Furball because she was a beautiful, fluffy, long-haired cat.
Does your pet have any favorite toys, places to sleep, visit, etc?
When Furball was a barn cat, her favorite pastime was to sit on our front or back porch, guarding it from the neighborhood cats. She also enjoyed hunting. When we moved to our Norton Commons home, Furball easily acclimated to indoor life. She loved to chase ghosts & fluffy things on a string but preferred people/pet watching while sitting on her ottoman in the front window. Because she grew up outdoors, we often accompanied her outside so that she could enjoy the fresh air.
Tell us something quirky or funny that your pet does:
Furball enjoyed her alone time sitting in the dark on an ottoman in our primary bedroom closet.
How has having your pet made your life better?
Furball was the best companion one could imagine. Whenever a lap or a shoulder was available, she was on it. She loved us as much as we loved her.
Is there anything else you want to tell the neighbors about your pet?
Furball started showing signs of geriatric illness right around Thanksgiving of 2023. Even though we took her to multiple vet visits and did everything we could to nurse her back to health, she continued to decline. We lost our sweet, sweet Furball on December 30, 2023. We were devastated but extremely grateful that she lived a long, beautiful life. She will be forever cherished in our hearts and memories.
