The Grant's backporch
A unique glass design to an already lovely view
We've enjoyed many hours in our Norton Commons home on our back porch and the private little garden beyond. But, my husband Mark realized, that by adding a stunning glass wall, the back porch could bring us even more months of pleasure without losing the feel of being outdoors, and improve on our private refuge. A porch enclosure isn’t uncommon, but I feel this unique glass design adds a visually striking element to an already lovely view.
Mark has many years of experience in construction and construction management. So he was able to design and draw up the plans for the glass wall and oversee the installation and accomplish the goal of not impeding the view of the garden and sky, and I think the effect is perfect.
When we first moved to our Norton Commons townhouse, Mark worked to create a beautiful garden in the small back courtyard, first by adding a charming little gate into the surrounding fence. He also built structures to conceal the AC condenser unit which is located within this space, and a matching second structure which we use similar to a garden shed. The garden has a fountain and two pergolas that include hanging rustic swings and are home to beautiful wandering Wisteria. We love the garden and spend many hours there or on the porch looking out at it, weather permitting. Now our glass-enclosed porch is an additional room to our home and an opportunity to dwell in this attractive space year-round that bridges the gap from indoor living to the beautiful and vibrant outdoors.
