The October 19th opening of Joyride, Brian Bowen Smith’s latest exhibition at Whizin Market Square, Studio CT was a stunning success, celebrating art, community, and camaraderie. With sponsorships from Casa Del Sol, Strange Family Wines, Rancho West Beer, and Meili Vodka, the evening turned into a lively gathering of hundreds of art lovers and locals. Among the attendees were some of Smith’s close friends, including actors Josh Brolin and Milo Ventimiglia, who joined to support his journey into a side of photography rarely showcased by the artist.
Guests enjoyed Basta’s famous woodfire pizzas freshly made in the parking lot, while Brian personally signed copies of his book, Drivebys, providing a memorable experience for his fans. The exhibition itself was a testament to both the area and the people who make it unique. Joyride featured a captivating mix of familiar and everyday faces from Old Agoura and beyond—figures like Kerri Kasem on horseback and Kathryn Bell from Basta—as well as renowned personalities like Paris Jackson and Emily Armstrong, whose striking portraits adorned the walls. The photos weren’t just snapshots; they were intimate narratives capturing the heartbeat of a community.
Brian Bowen Smith explained, "All of the shoots were about relationships. It’s about the connections we make every day, the people we see, and the places we go." This spirit of connection resonated deeply with Studio CT, which prides itself on being more than just a gallery. Co-founded by Nancy and Shanesa Fath, Studio CT is a lifestyle gallery that represents iconic photographers and artists and is known for its commitment to local engagement and collaborative spirit.
For Smith, Studio CT was the ideal venue to showcase Joyride. Known for capturing Hollywood’s biggest stars, he took this opportunity to explore the people and landscapes that hold personal significance to him, reflecting his love for the local community. Through Joyride, he shone a spotlight on the beauty of everyday life in Old Agoura, putting the area “on the map” with his stunning and deeply personal work.
For those who missed the opening, Studio CT’s doors are open, and Joyride will be on display until December. It’s more than an exhibition; it’s a celebration of community and connection in its purest form.
