Daisy and Lily Salapatas
Puppy Lily with her brother
Family member name: Crystal Salapatas
Pets' names: Daisy and Lily
Type of animal/breed: Daisy is a mixed Great Pyrenees...from the looks of her, she probably has a Golden Retriever father. Lily is an Armenian Gampr.
Male or female: both females to make sure that Loki, my 12-year-old mixed shepherd, would accept them.
Pets' ages: both are 10 months approx.… They were both about 3-4 months old when I got them.
Where/why did you get your pet? Daisy is from Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue. After saying goodbye to my beloved long coat Akita, Kody, I questioned if or when I’d feel ready to welcome another pet into my life. As I sat in my den grieving, a serendipitous internet search brought Daisy to my attention. There was something about the eyes that drew me in. The problem was that Daisy was in Texas at the Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue. After completing the lengthy adoption process…I was off to Houston to meet Daisy. We bonded instantly, so we headed back to Los Angeles with Daisy at my feet.
The day after I returned from Texas with Daisy, I got a call from Sunny Saint Bernard Rescue to let me know they had found a mixed St. Bernard I might like that had been rescued from the Downtown Los Angeles Pound. She was now with a foster mom in Santa Barbara… So, a day later, Daisy and I headed to Santa Barbara… It was Kismet that her name was Lily…another Flower Child!
Is there a story behind their names? Yes… Being and member of the Westlake Village Garden Club, I used the theme of “Flower Children” to choose a name for Daisy… Her littermates were all named after mushrooms; she was Portobello!
Anything special or unusual about them (talents/quirks)? Daisy is a thief! Whether on the counter in the kitchen or in the yard. She is especially attracted to a cement cat in the yard…I keep finding it out in the middle of the lawn!
What do you like best about your pet? Daisy has expressive eyes and a gentle nature. Lily is a big lovable oaf…she is already 85 lbs!
Any funny stories? After taking them both into the pool to make sure they could find the steps, I found Lily standing on the first step into the pool… Next thing I knew, she was dog paddling out to the deep end and back… First saw it on the ring cameras. She swims about 6 times a day!
How spoiled is your pet? ALL my pets are spoiled…including the rescue kitties, African Gray parrots, the koi and all the wild squirrels and rabbits in the yard! Dr Kelly Watrobski and Calabasas Holistic Veterinary saw Kody, my Akita for a therapy weekly due to a botched ACL repair, he received laser, massage, and acupuncture until the day he died…literally! She is an amazing vet!
What else should we know about your pet and/or how your pet has enriched your home/family? They brought joy back from the loss of Kody, my Akita.
