East Texas Collector Ethan Callahan Shares Passion for Numismatics Through Tyler Coin Club

From Christmas Gift to Hobbyist: Ethan Callahan Explores the World of Coins and Connects with Fellow Collectors

“I’m still a relatively new collector, but I love learning about the history of different coins and notes, both domestic and foreign,” says Ethan Callahan, East Texas native. Ethan is many things; he’s a resident of Tyler, a husband to Katherine, a salesman at ABC Supply, and a coin collector. One Christmas, Ethan was given old coins by his Great Uncle Robert. This gift sparked an interest in Ethan, and began him on a journey into the wonderful world of coin collection. “I got started collecting coins by buying from the local coin stores in Tyler and talking to the owners,” Ethan says. His involvement with the Tyler Coin Club allows him to grow his passion for numismatics.

The Tyler Coin Club, which currently boasts about 50 members, offers a structured and informative environment for collectors of all levels. Meetings begin with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by presentations on various numismatic topics, from specific coins and stamps to the history of currency. “We have whoever volunteered that week to stand in front of the projector and teach about anything club-related,” Ethan says. Members actively participate by sharing their knowledge and showcasing collector’s items as well as displaying pieces for sale on which other members can then bid. The club's annual coin show, one of the largest in Texas, attracts collectors and enthusiasts from far and wide. Ethan says the Tyler Coin Show, hosted by the Tyler Coin Club, is where he became a member in 2022.

“This club is for everyone,” Ethan says. “You can come to the club to buy, sell, or just learn more about coins and numismatics.” Whether you're a seasoned collector or a curious beginner, the club offers opportunities to learn, connect with like-minded individuals, and enjoy the thrill of the collection. If you’re already a coin collector or you’re a total novice just looking for some good fellowship, the door to the Tyler Coin Club is open.
