Barkley and Ellie Mae

Ellie and I live with Kevin and Rachelle Carlisle who moved here in December 2011 with their daughter Alexis, along the 8th green. Like them, we love the community! It's a great place to live, especially if you're a dog. There are so many places to explore and sometimes we get a peek at the golf course and the club where so many of you gather with family and friends.
We moved into Oakhurst - December 2011 and live on the 8th green. We love the community, the golf course and club where we gather with family and friends. It's never a bad idea to go for a walk around Oakhurst Ridge Road - it goes all the way around in a circle so we never need to go backwards. Fresh smells everyday! Sometimes, in our dreams, we run free on the golf course.
BARKLEY
You're never going to believe this but I went to the winning bid at a charity auction held at Everest Academy - years before Alexis left us and went to college. It's no secret that I was the best bid ever! Ellie and I miss her so much when she's away learning and growing up. She was only 12 years old when they brought me home and that same smile she had that night is the same one I see every time I close my eyes and take a nap. I am a male Golden Doodle and that makes me 12 years old too!
ELLIE MAE
About 4 years ago, Kevin and Alexis went to a farm to meet a golden that Rachelle's niece, Kristien thought would fit right in our family. She was right! We all fell in love with Ellie Mae instantly! Technically, she is an "English Cream" Golden Retriever, but to me she is the reason I stay so active: She loves to retrieve all day long. It's a good thing she also loves to cuddle because it makes up for her mischevious behavior that I can never get blamed for - ever! It's ok though, because makes me feel like a puppy. I don't have time to grow old.
WHAT'S IN A NAME?
You might think they named me Barkley because I love to bark at anyone walking by our house in an attempt to get their attention, especially other four-legged neighbors. But, my name fit the criteria: something that rhymed with "Carli." I know, it doesn't exactly rhyme, but it's close enough and it does suit me. Ellie Mae was named after Eleanor from The Good Place, but they shortened it to Ellie and added Mae. They said it has something to do with her being their Southern Bell!
TREASURES & TREATS
We love our oversized Cappucino cup stuffed toys they let us take everywhere we go. We share a basketful of Bark Box goodies but admit we're not very good at putting our toys away. Ellie Mae and I need to train Kevin and Rachelle how to do that for us because every time we put them in our mouth with intentions of putting them away, we start playing all over again. It's just too hard! Maybe if we were bribed with ice cream treats several times a day during the summer, we might learn a new trick! Hey, we'll do just about anything for a Starbuck's pup cup any time of year!
WINNING WALKS
I'd like to think Ellie Mae and I are helping our Detroit Lions with their winning season. After all, we wear our Honolulu Blue team bandanas on every walk. We get so excited on our walks just like everyone watching the Lions win game after game. It never gets old. You might call us "good luck charms!" That's what all the barking is about. We have to cheer on our team and let everyone know this is the year! (Going out on a limb: it's December 10th as we write this and I know you'll be reading this in February... barking for a Super Bowl bandana!
