Ryan Hardtke Turns Hobby Into Limitless Metal

Ryan Hardtke, Photographer
Hello neighbors,
My name is Ryan Hardtke. I was 5 years old when my parents Craig and Kim moved to Oakhurst. I am a 2022 graduate of Central Michigan University where I earned a degree in Information Technology (IT) and a certificate in Cybersecurity. My hobby and interest in drone photography led me to start my business, LIMITLESS METAL LLC.
DRONE PHOTOGRAPHY
In 2021, I decided to get my Part 107 drone license allowing me to produce prints of my drone images. Also known as a Remote Pilot Certificate, the Part 107 drone license is "a license from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that allows you to fly small drones (under 55 pounds) for commercial purposes in the United States." Once I got my license, I joined several drone groups and today I continue to learn about specific Michigan regulations including how advancements in drone technology could affect future FAA flight rules. Using a drone to take photos gives a new perspective from what can be seen on the ground in traditional photos. If you're interested in drone photography, it's important to keep up with technology advancements.
METAL PHOTOGRAPHY
As my photo collection grew throughout 2022, I started selling metal prints of my images online. Metal prints are created through a process called dye-sublimation, where the ink is fused into the aluminum using heat. Being self taught, I took inspiration from other photographers, both in the style of photos and the printing mediums. I originally started with a selection of images from Hawaii, but I have since expanded my collection to include images from around Michigan. All the more reason to call my business LIMITLESS METAL.
ART SHOWS
It has been a couple of years since I began printing my images on metal. Recently, I began participating in local art shows so others could see my collection in person rather than only online. I want to continue to build beyond an online audience and share my passion. At our annual Clarkston Art in the Village show last summer, I had a booth displaying my collection on both metal and photo paper. One of my pieces for sale featured Kelitiz Field at Central Michigan State University and was purchased as a gift to be given to Dave Kelitiz himself. That was so cool! He actually reached out after receiving it and asked me about creating a large metal print for the baseball clubhouse at Central.
FUTURE IS LIMITLESS
I look forward to expanding my collection to share with others online and in person at art shows. Custom orders have started to come in and taking drone photos of homes here in Oakhurst have been requested. Realtors aren't the only ones who can appreciate the different view of the landscape, even here at home. If you would like to see more of my art work, go to limitlessmetal.net and let me know what you think.
