Jane Denny

Driven by Passion, Powered by Perseverance

Meet Jane Denny, a 13-year-old student at Ottawa Hills Junior High School who is making waves in both academics and athletics. Having moved to Ottawa Hills from New York City just two years ago, Jane has quickly embraced her new community, and in this interview, she shares what she loves most about her new home, her favorite activities, and her future aspirations.

Jane is enthusiastic about her new life in Ottawa Hills. “My favorite thing about living here is the community,” she says. “Everyone was so welcoming, and I made many new friends.” Transitioning from a big city like NYC to a quieter neighborhood could be a challenge for some, but Jane has embraced the change with open arms and found a place she truly enjoys.

When it comes to her free time, Jane is an active and passionate individual. She enjoys playing volleyball, working out, and cooking. “What I like about volleyball is I get to play with my friends and spend time with them doing what I love,” Jane explains. Volleyball is not just a sport for her—it’s a way to bond with her peers and push herself to improve. “I love taking any opportunity I get to push myself and get better,” she adds.

In addition to her love for volleyball, Jane finds working out motivating, always striving to meet her personal fitness goals. Cooking is another activity she enjoys, particularly because it allows her to spend quality time with her mom while trying out new recipes.

Among her many activities, volleyball holds a special place in Jane’s heart. Her love for the sport began in seventh grade, and she has continued to thrive ever since. One of her proudest achievements was being part of her eighth-grade school volleyball team that won the league tournament and became TAAC champions. “I love seeing everyone cheer each other on!” she says, reflecting on the team spirit that made their victory so special.

Jane’s dedication to the sport is also reflected in her role as vice president of the junior high student council, where she enjoys collaborating with her peers. She is proud of her leadership and the opportunities it gives her to work with others on various initiatives.

When asked about someone she admires, Jane mentions Harper Murray, a Nebraska volleyball player. “I look up to Harper because she is one of the best Big10 volleyball players and has been through a lot of adversity,” Jane shares. “Her perseverance and dedication have taught me that hard work pays off.”

Looking ahead, Jane has clear goals for her future. After high school, she plans to attend college and hopes to become a volleyball coach for young girls, combining her passion for the sport with her desire to inspire others.

When it comes to favorites, Jane is easy to talk to. Her favorite food is a Chipotle bowl, and her music taste leans toward artists like Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan. As for movies, The Notebook is her go-to pick, while she passionately supports the New York Yankees and the Nebraska Cornhuskers Volleyball team. In school, Jane excels in English, and if she could pick a dream vacation spot, it would be Greece, with its rich history and beautiful landscapes.

Jane Denny is a dedicated student, athlete, and leader in the Ottawa Hills community. With her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and clear goals for the future, she is an inspiration to her peers and a bright star in the making. Keep an eye on Jane—she’s sure to achieve great things, both on and off the volleyball court!
