Sculptures Around Parkwood Knolls

Meet Clyde the Camel

We will be showcasing neighborhood sculptures in upcoming issues so keep on the lookout and let us know your favorites. Or, if you have a piece that you would like us to highlight, contact us!

The Parkwood Knolls neighborhood has art of all kinds on display and this fun piece is fittingly located on Camelback Drive. Owned by the Shapiro's,
the sculpture was made by Jim Simon, who is a childhood friend of Carol Shapiro. “I gave him a small camel sculpture I have to use as a reference and asked him if he could make me a camel,” said Carol. Jim took some liberties and made it a 2-hump camel instead of a 1-hump camel.

“I love it standing outside my house. His name is Clyde.”

Carol bought her first camel (a large stuffed animal) before moving to Camelback Drive. And once she moved to their present home, she started her camel collection. “I know lots of people with elephant, frog & rooster collections but didn’t know anyone at the time with a camel collection. And yes, I have had the opportunity to ride a camel and hike on Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale, AZ.”

Say “Hi” to Clyde the next time you’re walking by on Camelback Drive!
