Feathers, Flowers, and Fascinators
The Story Of Our Resident Derby Hat Artisan
In the heart of Persimmon Ridge, where community spirit flourishes, Leslie Savko has woven her own unique tale of creativity and passion. A resident of this charming neighborhood for a decade, Leslie resides with her husband, Brad, and their three children: Savi, Brooks, and Adeleine.
Leslie's journey into the world of hat design began unexpectedly, sparked by her daughter's school event. "My daughter had a father-daughter dance, and the theme was Derby! So I made a little fascinator for her and shared it on social media. Suddenly, I found myself creating 50 more for little girls, and it took off from there," Leslie recalls with a smile.
Drawing on her upbringing, where her parents owned a flower shop in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and her sister owned a wreath business, Leslie discovered her latent talent for crafting beautiful headpieces. "It's a family legacy," she says, connecting her present to her roots.
For Leslie, this venture is more than creating hats; it's about making people feel beautiful. "I love that beauty doesn't have a type," she enthuses. One standout moment was spotting numerous women adorned in her creations at Thurby, an experience that left her speechless.
Beyond the artistic outlet it provides, Leslie sees her work as a catalyst for connection. "I get to meet new people and hear their stories that touch me! I'm more than a hat designer," she shares. Her advice for aspiring creatives echoes a theme of self-belief and perseverance: "Don't let self-doubt hold you back."
Leslie's creations, available through her Facebook and Instagram page, 'The Cherry on Top Shop,' are not just hats; they are tangible expressions of passion, resilience, and the pursuit of dreams. "If you have a passion, chase it! You have one life to live, so what are you waiting for?" Leslie inspires, embodying the spirit of Persimmon Ridge and encouraging others to chase their dreams with zest and determination.
