Swim for Life

On the eve of Dave Dauer’s 71st birthday, Dave Dauer wrote, “Tomorrow I’m doing something most folks wouldn’t do at my age, but I can.”
On August 23rd, through the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dave Dauer completed what he set out to accomplish. Not only did Dave complete a 2.2 mile swim for his brother who is battling cancer, Dave surpassed his original goal of $6,000 and raised almost double as of Labor Day Weekend last month.
With his fellow pond swimmer, Lynn Cabanna, Dave swam the course in just over two hours while Lynn completed the course in just under 2 hours. Both swam for 2.2 miles doing the full pond and then circling around the island.

After the swim, Dave shared with his friends: The tiredness and sore shoulders I feel today is so minor compared to what my brother and thousands of others must deal with every while going through all the therapies for their cancer treatments.
Throughout the weeks leading up to the swim, Dave updated his fundraiser in emails and through social media. While he called it his very last ask in a post declaring a swimming victory for himself and Lynn, we wanted to celebrate Dave’s accomplishment and his dedication to his brother and remind readers that donations will still be accepted through November.

WHY DAVE’S FUNDRAISING FOR THE JIMMY FUND:
In 2023, my younger brother Barry, at 65, retired from a successful career and was looking forward to a retirement filled with family experiences, travel, and continued growth. Just three weeks into that retirement, symptoms presented, and he went on a month-long whirlwind of tests and doctors with the diagnosis of stage 4 cancer.
At that moment, life changed.
After the failure of targeted therapies, Barry is now managing the very tough road of chemotherapy that might give him some extra time to fulfill his ambition of spending time with family and friends while making one more Patriots football season.
Barry is fighting the battle but needs a miracle and your prayers.
Maybe the Patriots will also pull out a miracle.

Please honor both the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and his brother’s battle by showing your generosity. Donations are still being accepted. Scan the QR or email Dave at davedauer@gmail.com for a clickable link to donate directly.
