A Welcoming Home

Northbridge Communities

Hi, we’re Wendy Nowokunski and Jim Coughlin, co-founders and co-owners of Northbridge Communities. We are proud to own and manage the award-winning Laurelwood at The Pinehills, a vibrant and supportive community dedicated to caring for area seniors and their families. When asked about what sets a Northbridge Community apart, we confidently say it’s the people. The incredible residents, families we serve, and our fantastic associates embody the heart and soul of Northbridge and Laurelwood at The Pinehills. Their joy, resilience, and spirit inspire us daily and drive our commitment to creating exceptional living experiences.

Where did you grow up? How long have you lived here locally?
We're Massachusetts natives: Wendy grew up in Acton and Jim, just up the road in Scituate on the South Shore. Our deep roots in this area inspired us to build a business in our home state, dedicated to caring for New England residents and their families. We’re all about family and many of our own family members serve and have lived in our communities.

What inspired you to start Northfield Communities?
We have been working in senior living for over 30 years and we wanted to come together to build a company that focused on the right things with a mission rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to live well and love life, regardless of age.

As we celebrate Northbridge Companies’ 20th year, we’re so proud that we did just that. At Northbridge, we strive to create exceptional lifestyle choices tailored to the unique needs of our residents, their families, and caregivers. Our approach is not just about providing care, but about fostering a vibrant, supportive community where well-being and joy are at the forefront. We are dedicated to making Northbridge a place where life is celebrated every day.

Outside of your dedication to Northbridge, tell us about your other interests and hobbies.
We’re both deeply passionate about the arts. Jim specializes in oil and acrylic painting, while Wendy excels in charcoal drawing. Jim's oil painting of the Old North Bridge in Concord, which inspired the Northbridge Companies' name, proudly hangs above the concierge desk at Laurelwood at The Pinehills. Our love for the arts led to the creation of Northbridge's signature Artists in Residence program, which offers residents the chance to explore various artistic mediums. This program not only sparks creativity but also fosters new forms of communication and expression, making it a central pillar at Laurelwood. We hope you’ll visit with us to view some of the many unique pieces created by our resident artists over the years or join us at Laurelwood’s upcoming art show in partnership with Plymouth Center for the Arts on October 24th from 4-6 p.m.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve The Pinehills community and that so many local families have trusted us to care for them over the years. We continually strive to do the right thing for our residents, their families, our associates and the communities we serve. We look forward to continuing to be a part of The Pinehills community and serving you and your families for many years to come.

"From the first day when I arrived here, I felt as though I was cared for so well that I felt like I was a member of a great big family. The associates are so friendly and welcoming and helpful whenever you need something. The residents are also very friendly and welcoming and fun to be with. We have a daily list of activities that we can participate in if we so wish. And lastly, we are a group of people who are very happy to be here." - Judy M., Laurelwood at The Pinehills Resident
