Alyssa Pepin: Championing Change at The Lighthouse and in Her Community

Alyssa Pepin, a dedicated volunteer at The Lighthouse, has been contributing her time and effort to the organization for the past six months. The Lighthouse, based in Fort Collins, is a pivotal resource for men seeking to rebuild their lives after overcoming addiction. Pepin plays a vital role in the organization by assisting with their annual Praise in the Park event, where she is an active member of the planning committee.

Her involvement with The Lighthouse stems from a deep commitment to the cause. “The Lighthouse is not only local, but it also offers crucial support to men transitioning from addiction. Currently, The Lighthouse operates from a leased property and is striving to acquire a permanent home. Additionally, their services are expanding to include support for women. I wanted to be part of this essential mission, especially since such organizations often struggle for support,” Pepin explained.

Volunteers like Pepin are integral to The Lighthouse's operations, which rely on community engagement to thrive. Those interested in contributing can participate in annual fundraisers, offer their skills in areas like plumbing or electrical work, and donate items for the fresh start kits provided to new program entrants, including essentials like pillows, toiletries, and blankets.

The rewards of volunteering with The Lighthouse are evident in the transformative stories Pepin witnesses. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to see men who have faced severe challenges turn their lives around—securing stable jobs, going back to school, buying homes, and mending relationships with family,” she shared.

Pepin moved to Highland Hills in January to start a new chapter in her life post-graduate school. Living with her best friend's parents, Frederic and Shannon Lachance, who she regards as her adoptive family, she enjoys the friendly atmosphere of her community and the stunning mountain views. Alyssa says, “My favorite part of the neighborhood is how friendly everyone is and how we say hi to each other on walks and wave when passing each other in our cars.”

Shannon joined Pepin on the planning committee, and her husband Frederic contributed on the day of the event.
