IT’S NOW HOME SWEET HOME FOR THE ALLEN FAMILY
After over a year of major renovation and construction, Mike and Kelly Allen and their family have comfortably settled into their home in the Ptarmigan community. It all started in April of 2021 when the Allens decided to relocate from their home at Fossil Lake Ranch to the Ptarmigan area surrounded by the Ptarmigan Country Club golf course. I asked Mike Allen during our interview, "What prompted your decision to relocate to Ptarmigan?" Mike answered, “First, we wanted to downsize from our home at Fossil Lake Ranch, considering that Kelly and I will be empty nesters in due time. We also love the Ptarmigan community and wanted to live on Ptarmigan’s beautiful golf course which is our favorite golf course of choice. We like the private country club golf course idea.”
In April of 2021, Mike and Kelly found a home on the market along the picturesque number 2 fairway at Ptarmigan, a perfect setting. However, the existing home needed significant renovation to satisfy their personal needs and tastes. So then began an abundance of renovating construction work.
Mike and Kelly closely supervised this year-long project, which was managed by the general contractor Renovative Resource. This one-story home was completely gutted, walls were moved, all bathrooms were redone, and many windows were added to create additional lighting and aesthetics. All the floors were redone with wooden French oak. New lights and wall fixtures and new and improved furniture throughout the home were added. Once completed, this beautiful 2,700-square-foot home interior was ready to move in. Much credit also goes to the interior designer Jenny Murphy, who owns her own company, J. Reiko Design. However, that was not the end. Both their home's front and back properties also received major landscape construction improvements. Lindgren Landscape Company was in charge of the construction, with Mitch Benshoof crafting the architectural design. The exterior landscaping project took nine months to complete.
This project was a significant financial investment. After over a year of interior and exterior construction, the Allen family moved into their dream home in June 2022. Mike said, “We really love our home, the new floorplan and setup. We use our patio frequently for entertaining but also just enjoy sitting quietly outside enjoying the beautiful Colorado sunsets. We also love the Ptarmigan community that we are a part of.”
Now, in late 2024, the Allen family are moving forward with their respective busy lives. Although Mike is now retired, he spends lots of time on the links, sharpening up his golf game along with vacation travel and enjoying their second home in Arizona. Allen was the co-owner of Allen Services with his brother Jeff. The company started its business in 1962 with their father, Marion Allen. The family relocated from Texas to start their family business in Fort Collins. Mike was in this very successful business for 43 years, functioning as president of the company and in charge of operations. Wife Kelly stays busy teaching as a personal trainer, playing golf, keeping tabs on their three daughters, volunteering on committees for the Ptarmigan HOA, and actively participating with the ladies’ golf league. Their oldest daughter, Tess, has taken a new job in merchandising in Austin, Texas. The middle daughter, Lucy, will be a senior at Oregon State University majoring in psychology, while the youngest, Ruby, will be a senior at Fossil Ridge High School.
As the Allen family enjoys their home, it won't be long before Mike and Kelly become empty nesters. In the meantime, they continue to cherish their home, which also serves as a welcoming place for Ptarmigan residents, golfers, and close friends and family to appreciate the beautiful setting.
