In the Highland Hills neighborhood on Park Hill Court, Chris and Joann Cameron have called this community home for the past four years. Having relocated from California to be closer to their daughter and grandkids—who live just four doors up—the Camerons have embraced their new surroundings with enthusiasm and warmth. Their daughter, Betsy Jensen, and her husband, Mike, live just a short walk away, making family gatherings very convenient. Mike and Betsy have two children: Sam, a senior year at Timnath High School, and Riley, a sophomore at Timnath.

Originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, Chris grew up in Saratoga, California. His academic journey took him through Cal Berkeley, USC, and San Jose State, reflecting a deep commitment to learning. Joann, an alumna of Chico State, complements Chris's background with her academic and personal achievements. Joann is deeply involved in the Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO), a sisterhood of women who are purposeful and passionate about celebrating, supporting, and motivating women. PEO’s mission is to help women around the world advance through education. Locally, PEO is sending four high school graduates to university this year and supporting one student in pursuing a master’s degree. She remarks, “It’s a wonderful organization, and I’m proud to be involved.”

Together, they enjoy a rich array of interests and activities. They frequently head to local favorites such as Chimney Park, Biaggi’s, PF Chang’s, Philippe’s Bistro, and William Oliver’s when eating out. Their journeys have taken them to the serene British Isles, Norway's stunning landscapes, Bermuda's tropical paradise, and the beautiful shores of Lahaina Maui.

Chris and Joann spend their leisure time enjoying walks, movies, exercise, and yoga, finding relaxation and joy in these activities. Their musical tastes lean towards the classics of the 40s, 50s, and 60s, and they enjoy TV shows and movies from Acorn, BritBox, and Masterpiece Theater.

As this is our November issue dedicated to honoring Veterans, it’s fitting to highlight Chris and the exciting event he participated in this past April. Chris, a distinguished Veteran who retired as an infantry captain, has a storied military background that includes tours across the U.S., Germany, and Southeast Asia. His dedication to service was honored with an invitation to participate in a parade and Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., an experience he shared with his son-in-law, Mike. Honor Flight is a non-profit organization that recognizes and honors U.S. military Veterans for their service and sacrifices. Founded in 2005 by a retired Air Force captain named Earl Morse, Honor Flight's mission is to transport Veterans, particularly those who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials dedicated to their service.

Before their flight to D.C., around 140 Veterans gathered at The Ranch in Loveland to listen to five guest speakers. Following the event, they boarded a bus that traveled through Windsor, Loveland, and Fort Collins on its way to NoCo Airport, where they would board their privately chartered plane. Hundreds of residents lined the streets with signs and waved them off, including 150 motorcyclists from various locations. The bus was also escorted by police and fire department vehicles. Chris says, “It was quite an experience, and I feel lucky that Mike nominated me for this once-in-a-lifetime event.”

When asked about what they like about living in Highland Hills, they say, “We love the spacious acre lots and well-maintained landscaping, which offers a view of serene farms. We also very much appreciate our friendly neighbors who provide a strong sense of community.”

A favorite family tradition for the Camerons is celebrating holidays together, whether in their current home or in California. The family’s guiding principle, the Serenity Prayer, reflects their approach to life: embracing serenity in the face of challenges, courage to change what they can, and wisdom to know the difference.

In every aspect of their lives, from rich past experiences to active community involvement, Chris and Joann Cameron exemplify a blend of adventure, dedication, and heartfelt connection to family and community.
