Ptarmigan Country Club Under New Ownership

Ptarmigan Country Club has a new owner. Heritage Golf Group has purchased this 40-year-old private golf course and country club. The acquisition became official on December 4, 2024. With the purchase of Ptarmigan, the Heritage Golf Group portfolio now includes 41 golf clubs across the eastern and central United States. Including Ptarmigan Country Club, there are three other clubs in Colorado that are owned by Heritage Golf Group. They include the Golf Club at Bear Dance in Larkspur, Colorado National in Erie, and Plum Creek Golf Club in Castle Rock.
The history of Ptarmigan started in 1985. Since its inception, Ptarmigan has now experienced four owners. A Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear designed golf course, developer Jim Tull was the first owner who started and developed Ptarmigan. Tull maintained ownership until 1988, when developer Tom Muth and partners bought the club. Muth and his partners owned the club until 2004, when the Ron and Ryan Flack family purchased Ptarmigan. The Flacks owned the club for 20 years, and in December of 2024, they consummated selling Ptarmigan to Heritage Golf Group headquartered in Herndon, Virginia. On the corporate business side, the company is comprised of a leadership team of 15 people, including a President and CEO, a Chief Operating Officer, and a Chief Revenue Officer.
With Northern Colorado booming, the geographic location and landscape of Ptarmigan, the incredible interest in golf, and a well-established and healthy country club with a well-recognized reputation, the corporation saw Ptarmigan as a perfect fit with a tremendous opportunity to add to its success over its 40-year history.
With the change of ownership, there has been little change in staff at Ptarmigan Country Club. Chris Bowry continues to function as the Head Golf Professional. Jeff Ulvedal has moved from the Director of Golf Operations to a promotion as the club’s General Manager. Kelly Misuraca has been promoted to the Director of Membership plus Member Relations.
“We are very excited about this new adventure and the great opportunities that Heritage Golf Group plans to bring to Ptarmigan. We will continue to carry on the tradition that Tom Muth and his partners created, along with the leadership and commitment that the Flack family brought to Ptarmigan with their ownership over these last 20 years. It’s exciting and challenging to move forward with our new owners”, said Jeff Ulvedal, General Manager of Ptarmigan Country Club.”
“For our membership and staff, we look forward to upgrades and improvements that will enhance the operation of Ptarmigan. We will continue to be one of Northern Colorado's best and premier clubs," concluded Ulvedal.
Congratulations to Heritage Golf Group on purchasing one of its newest clubs in the United States. Welcome to Ptarmigan, as Heritage and Ptarmigan look forward to its next successful chapter together.

Fun Fact:
The ptarmigan bird, after which the country club is named, is an alpine bird that lives at high elevations and is rarely found in Colorado. When it does appear, it’s typically at much higher elevations than Fort Collins. Notable for its feathered feet, the ptarmigan navigates frozen terrain with ease. Its plumage changes color with the seasons, turning white in winter and brown in summer.
