Northern Colorado Carpets: Doing Right by the Community
“We’re from Northern Colorado, and our kids go to school here. Our only goal is to do right by the community – that’s in business and everything else. We do a good job, we provide good customer service, and we support the community. Everything else falls into place from there,” said Derek Krasuski, Owner and Manager of Northern Colorado Carpets.
With this long-held belief, it’s no wonder Northern Colorado Carpets has been in business for nearly 50 years. Giving generously to the community has cemented Northern Colorado Carpets as the region’s leading carpet and flooring business.
Derek’s father, Dock, opened the store’s doors in 1976. Dock’s parents had a carpet store in Loveland when Dock was a kid. After college, Dock started his own business and has built quite a generational legacy. “I learned what I know from my dad,” said Derek. “He instilled hard work in me, but he also taught me to do what’s right and always give back.”
That’s exactly what Derek has gone on to do as the next owner of Northern Colorado carpets. They support many youth sports leagues, give to local schools, and donate to our local Habitat for Humanity.
“Sports are just such a valuable thing for kids,” Derek said. “It teaches teamwork and hard work, and I’m all about supporting them. Northern Colorado Carpets is proud to be a sponsor for so many good kids and teams.”
They haven’t stopped there. Northern Colorado Carpets has always been a strong advocate for veterans in our community. “As an Army veteran myself, I have a special place in my heart for our troops,” Derek added. “We don’t stop at Veteran’s Day; we support our military year-round. We give active and retired members discounts at the store and give to veterans organizations as often as we can.”
Derek is as humble as they come but had an impressive military career. After college, he joined the U.S. Army and spent the next nine years serving our country. He was a Ranger in the 75th Ranger Regiment for five years and an Officer with 1st Bn/3rd Special Forces Group (A) for his last three years in the Army. Derek served in six combat deployments.
Following his time in the Army, Derek was ready to come home and raise his kids in Colorado. They moved to Windsor in 2012, and Derek found himself working alongside his dad. In 2019, Dock retired and Derek and his wife, Amy, took over the business. Derek takes an active role in the business. He has a hand in running the store, along with overseeing nearly every job. Amy handles the business management pieces, including invoicing, payroll, and HR duties.
The showroom has a new face. Last year, Sherry joined the team and serves in a sales and design role for clients. “She’s been a breath of fresh air in the showroom,” said Derek. “She’s warm and friendly and clients just gravitate toward her. She has a good eye and helps our clients so much.”
Misty has been with Northern Colorado Carpets for years and has become Derek’s right-hand person. She helps manage the jobs and manages the design side of the business. She has years of experience and brings a lot of knowledge to the table.
When he’s not working, Derek coaches his sons’ baseball teams and enjoys spending time with his family. Derek and Amy have three kids – Presley (16), Easton (14), and Mason (10).
“We’re Windsor people; my parents live in Ptarmigan and have for years. Our kids go to school here, and we’re committed to the community. We plan to keep doing right by all for years to come,” he added.
