Red Tail residents Chris and Catherine Ortiz, along with their energetic three-year-old daughter, Camdyn, have quickly become a part of the neighborhood since moving in March 2023. With backgrounds in hospitality and a love for community, the Ortiz family brings fun, camaraderie, and a touch of adventure to Red Tail.

Chris is a Director on the digital marketing team for Hyatt, overseeing a booking tool on Hyatt.com that allows guests to reserve experiences—whether it’s a massage, a round of golf, or a kayaking adventure—before their stay. Catherine is also part of the Hyatt family as a consultant specializing in guest feedback. From online reviews to post-stay surveys, she ensures guest experiences translate into actionable improvements for over 1,300 Hyatt properties worldwide. Working remotely has been a blessing for them both, with occasional trips to Hyatt’s corporate office in Chicago.

Hobbies and Favorite Spots 

When Chris isn’t working, you’ll likely find him on the golf course during the summer. More recently, their hobbies have revolved around finishing their basement, a winter project that kept them busy. The family loves taking Camdyn to local spots like Avon Park, Red Tail Pool, and the Cleveland Zoo. One of their favorite neighborhood gems? The Samuel James cul-de-sac, which transforms into a children’s paradise during the summer months.

Food and Travel 

Dining out with a toddler can be a challenge, but the Ortiz family enjoys local favorites like Veranda, Strip, Marble Room, and Kintaro. Even Camdyn joins in on the fun at Kintaro for what she calls a “sushi party.” When it comes to vacations, their last big trip took them to the breathtaking landscapes of Kauai and Maui. More frequently, they visit the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point near Naples, Florida, for a relaxing getaway.

Sports and Entertainment 

Chris, originally from a state without professional sports teams, grew up admiring players like Barry Bonds, Jay Bell, and Tony Womack. However, he’s now an enthusiastic Cleveland Guardians fan. Catherine, a true Ohioan, is dedicated to OSU football, the Browns, Cavs, and Guardians. Their TV habits include watching series from start to finish—favorites include Suits, The Lioness, and Night Agent. On Sunday nights, Catherine indulges in 90-Day Fiancé, embracing her guilty pleasure of reality TV. Music is another important part of their lives—Chris enjoys all genres, while Catherine has a soft spot for 90s and 2000s hip-hop.

Family Traditions 

Holidays are big in the Ortiz household. Thanksgiving is spent with Catherine’s family, where running the Cleveland Turkey Trot is a must—no exceptions! Christmas takes them to El Paso, Texas, where Chris’s side of the family gathers to celebrate not only the holiday but also his brother’s and mother’s birthdays.  And let’s not forget their cherished Pizza Fridays!

Background and Community Involvement 

Chris, originally from El Paso, TX, spent most of his childhood in Las Cruces, New Mexico. His father’s role as a DEA agent meant a bit of moving around. Catherine, on the other hand, grew up on the East Side in Macedonia, OH. The couple met while working for Hyatt in Chicago in 2011 and have lived in over five cities together. Now, they’re happy to call Red Tail home.

Community involvement is important to them—Chris is a member of the Men’s Golf League, while Catherine enjoys Ladies Lite. They love how welcoming and friendly their neighbors have been, making Red Tail feel like the perfect place to raise Camdyn, who enjoys swim classes at AquaTots and playing outdoors.
