The Zimmerman's Home
A Story of Love, Design, and Community

In 2020, as the world came to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Aimee Polgar-Zimmerman found herself searching for a new project. She had outgrown her bungalow in Rocky River and decided it was time to build a custom home—one that would suit her evolving lifestyle. That same week, she met Tyler Zimmerman, and as their relationship blossomed, so did the plans for their dream home. Their journey of love and home-building became intertwined, making their residence much more than just a house—it became a shared vision brought to life.
The Building Process
Aimee purchased the land in July 2020, drawn to its unique shape and its prime location as an end lot backing up to a serene wooded area. It offered the best of both worlds—the connection of a vibrant neighborhood with the tranquility of nature. Construction began in 2021, and by April 2022, the Zimmermans moved into their newly built home. The project was made possible by a talented team:
- Builder: Mastercraft Custom Homes, Bret Tidwell
- Designer: Karen Kneiss, fellow Redtail resident
- Architect: Arcus Group, Tom Liggett
- Landscape: GroundWorks
A Home Built for Entertaining and Living
The Zimmerman home was designed to reflect their lifestyle, prioritizing open spaces for gatherings over traditional formal areas. “We love to entertain, so we built our home around that idea. Instead of a formal dining or living room, we focused on creating open, welcoming spaces where friends and family could gather comfortably,” Aimee shares.
One of the home’s unique features is its long layout, which allowed for a wraparound driveway in the back—providing both privacy and a clutter-free front exterior. The oversized 3.5-car garage includes a single-car section transformed into a full-fledged home gym, making the space both functional and personal.
A Favorite Room with a Story
While every part of their home is thoughtfully designed, Aimee’s favorite space is the downstairs half-bath. “It’s just a vibe!” she exclaims. The room features a striking jaguar painting, a cherished piece from their engagement trip to Belize. It serves as a constant reminder of their journey together and the memories they’ve built.
Memorable Moments and Future Plans
Their favorite memory in the home happened right after moving in—hosting an open house on Memorial Day weekend. Despite minimal furniture due to backorders, they invited family, friends, and neighbors, expecting a modest gathering. Instead, over 100 people showed up, turning the event into a lively celebration of new beginnings.
Since moving in, they’ve already made small modifications to better fit their needs. Looking ahead, their next projects include finishing the basement and enhancing the backyard landscaping.
A Unique Neighborhood Experience
The Zimmermans cherish their neighborhood’s diverse and active community. “We love seeing people out walking, running, biking, and golfing. The blend of ages creates such a wonderful, welcoming atmosphere,” Aimee notes. Living just across from the 3rd fairway, they’ve collected quite the collection of stray golf balls—especially after Tuesday outings! (See photo of jar with golf balls)
Meet the Furry Family Members
The Zimmerman household wouldn’t be complete without their two beloved Labrador Retrievers:
- Luna (9-year-old yellow lab) – A sweet, slow-moving pup with two replaced knees, a love for treats, and a special talent for getting attention from neighbors.
- Stella (4-year-old silver lab) – A high-energy, ball-loving dynamo who can snag a tennis ball mid-air and is often found in the front yard, burning off energy.
A Home That Reflects Their Journey
The Zimmerman home is more than just a structure—it’s a testament to love, creativity, and a sense of belonging. Built during an unprecedented time, it symbolizes resilience, growth, and the beauty of new beginnings. Whether it’s hosting lively gatherings, making memories with their dogs, or simply enjoying the peaceful backdrop of nature, the Zimmermans have created a home that truly reflects who they are.
