Meet the Snyders: A Family Rooted in Reflection Ridge
Susan Peters Snyder and her husband Rob have called Reflection Ridge home for decades, and their love for the neighborhood runs deep. Their journey together began with a fateful blind date in San Diego in 1990, and they've been inseparable ever since. With 33 years of marriage under their belt, the Snyders have built a life filled with love, empathy, and a deep commitment to their family and community.
A Family of Achievers
The Snyder family is one that values empathy and service. Their daughters, Nikki Sellmeyer and Jenna Snyder, both embody these qualities in their chosen careers. Nikki, 30, followed her passion for helping others, earning a degree in psychology from the University of Kansas and a master's degree in child therapy from Avila University. She now runs a successful private practice in Wichita as a licensed family and child therapist. Jenna, 27, lives in San Diego, where she serves as the Marketing and Philanthropy Director for CASA of California. Both women graduated from Bishop Carroll High School, and their parents couldn't be prouder of their dedication to making the world a better place.
A Serendipitous Meeting
Susan and Rob's love story is one for the books. When they met, Susan was a news anchor at KWCH Channel 12. She had traveled back to San Diego to spend Easter with her parents, and it was there that a neighbor set her up on a blind date with Rob. They quickly discovered they had both been praying for the right spouse at the same time, a realization that solidified their connection. Just nine months later, they went on their first date, and the rest is history. Today, they admire each other for their shared compassion and extreme empathy, qualities that have only deepened their bond over the years.
A Deep Connection to Reflection Ridge
The Snyders' ties to Reflection Ridge date back to its early days of development. Susan was working at Channel 12 at the time and did several stories on the new neighborhood. When the opportunity arose to move back to Wichita for a job at KAKE TV, there was no other place they wanted to call home. Reflection Ridge offered the perfect balance of proximity to work and a family-friendly environment, and it has been their haven ever since.
One of the greatest joys of living in Reflection Ridge has been having their daughter Nikki, her husband Scott, and their granddaughter Sloane Marie move into the house next door. The proximity allows them to be an integral part of their granddaughter's life, a blessing they cherish every day. The Snyders also love the holiday spirit that comes alive in Reflection Ridge, with the beautifully decorated homes and the tradition of driving around the neighborhood to admire the Christmas lights.
Life After Retirement
Although Susan retired from her 35-year career as a news anchor and reporter in 2016, she remains as active as ever. She is the President and Founder of Susan’s Kids Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to finding forever homes for foster children. Her work has had a profound impact, with 40% of the children featured on TV and social media finding permanent homes.
Rob, originally from Long Island, New York, and Susan, who grew up in San Diego, have made Wichita their home for many years. Rob is now a successful real estate broker and developer, and his passion for classic cars keeps him busy. Every Friday, he hits the golf course with his foursome at Reflection Ridge, and he also enjoys playing in the men’s league every Wednesday.
Susan’s passion lies in the kitchen, where she loves to cook gourmet meals, bake, and can. She even auctions off six-course dinners for charity events. Susan also hosts a show on PBS Kansas called The Family Dinner Table, which features local chefs, family stories, and recipes.
A Community-Focused Life
The Snyders are deeply involved in their community. Susan has served on the boards of several local non-profits, including the Salvation Army, Senior Services of Wichita, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Wichita's Littlest Heroes. Both Susan and Rob are committed to giving back, whether through their professional work or volunteer efforts.
For the Snyders, Reflection Ridge is more than just a place to live; it's a community that has given them a lifetime of memories. They appreciate the neighborhood publication for keeping them connected with their neighbors and for the valuable resources it provides, from babysitting services to lawn care. As they continue to enjoy life in Reflection Ridge, Susan and Rob look forward to creating many more cherished memories with their family and friends.
