Wild Rooster Foods
Ridglea North Business Owner Jim Cox
My name is Jim Cox, owner and operator of a food manufacturing business, Wild Rooster Foods, LLC. We currently sell three varieties of Salsa and a BBQ Sauce. You can find our products in select stores around the DFW metroplex or at www.wildroostersalsa.com.
Wild Rooster Foods began its journey before it even had a name. While working in Mexican restaurants in high school and college, I started my education on the basics of authentic Texas salsa. In 2019, I made my fresh version as holiday gifts for friends. The response was overwhelmingly positive and people wanted to know when they could buy it.
After doing a little research, we learned we needed to cook and can our salsa which meant it was time to recreate the recipe. After multiple batches going down the sink, we had something for friends to sample and give feedback. Seven or eight versions later, we had perfected our recipes.
Hoping we could use this to pay for a camping trip or two, we were excited to give it a go. After months of not being able to keep up with demand we came to a crossroads; either continue cooking salsa in our kitchen as a hobby or transform this into a real business. So here we are sharing something we are passionate about; small batch traditional salsa with simple ingredients and a taste as big as Texas.
In addition to our salsa, we have mastered our Untamed BBQ sauce that is unique and full of flavor being sweet and spicy. It is one of the newest products in our line and is even featured by a local Fort Worth restaurant on one of their hamburgers.
Our brand is dedicated to a clean and simple approach. This means we believe in using ingredients anyone can get. You can pronounce everything in our products, which cannot be said for many on the market today. This is the secret to the freshest and most robust tasting sauces around.
Technically we only have three employees which are my wife Kim, our son Connor and myself. We have only been in business for a few years but hope to keep it going and grow it into something special. I am always toying with new recipe’s and will not put something out that I would not eat myself.
If there is anything that I have learned from starting a company is to ask questions and get advice from people who are already in the industry. I had help from our friends at a local manufacturer (Mrs. Renfro’s Foods), without them we would not be this far along.
I was born in Fort Worth but grew up in Midland, Texas, and came back as soon as I could. I am married to my partner in crime who likes all things spicy as do I. We have two sons, Connor and Caden who are grown and out of the house. We still enjoy camping along with cycling, staying active and traveling.
