Meet Softball Star Mai Falcone

When the bat was bigger than she was, Mai Falcone began her softball career. “I was first introduced to baseball when my brother started playing. I would tag along with my dad and brother to practice.” Mai started playing tee ball when she was six.
During her first high school season as a freshman, Mai hit the game-winning home run in the bottom of the 11th inning. That hit was her proudest moment. “It was a long, hard game and the score was 1-1 at the end of the 7th inning,” Mai recalled. “The game went into an international tiebreaker. The 8th, 9th, and 10th innings passed and neither team scored. Our opponent managed to score in the 11th inning, making it 2-1. I was up to bat with one out and a runner on second. I knew I had the chance to win the game, and hit a walk-off home run, final score 3-2.”
Now a tenth grader, Mai admits that she is very competitive and doesn’t like to lose. “I train hard every day to get better, and it bothers me if I don't perform my best.” Mai takes her softball very seriously in order to help her team and accomplish her goals. She believes that success in sports comes from hard work every day.
