Kevin Lee is King of the Links

Kevin Lee is a long-time Ruby Hill resident and a junior at Amador Valley High School, where he is on the Varsity Golf team. Kevin started playing golf in kindergarten with his father, Allen Lee. Kevin would join his father on the golf course and just hit balls. At the time, Kevin thought he was just hitting balls, not really comprehending that he was playing golf or that it would lead to a love of the game.
Kevin started taking the game of golf more seriously in seventh grade and practiced regularly in order to make the middle school golf team. Unfortunately, the season was canceled after only one practice because of COVID. Kevin used the shutdown to perfect his golf game, practicing nearly every day once the range opened.  Golf was one of the few sports that was COVID-19-friendly, allowing for both outdoor play and social distancing.
“For me," Kevin said, "It was mainly my dad who inspired me to play golf.  He would take me out to the range near our house to hit balls. It was my first experience playing golf, and I was able to spend time with him.” Once Kevin started playing golf seriously after the pandemic, he naturally wanted his father as his partner on the golf course.  According to Kevin, “Tiger’s swagger and his dominance during the Tiger Slam is inspiring.”

Kevin’s favorite part of the game is the social aspect and he has made many good friends through the game. He also enjoys making putts and striping balls down the fairway. “It’s one thing to make an insane birdie putt or a chip in, but it’s even better when you can share the excitement with a friend on the course.”
Amador Valley’s golf team is highly competitive. The boys are constantly playing with and against each other, but they always have fun while playing. His proudest moment was when the team won the Monarch Bay Tournament by one strike in San Leandro. It was the team’s first tournament and the win helped create excitement for the team and create bonds. The team played exceptionally well at the tournament, winning the lowest individual score, longest drive, and the tournament trophy.
Kevin’s motto for golf is to just have fun. He has seen many friends stop playing a sport because they were no longer loving the game. In his opinion, the best golfers are the ones who love the game and have the most fun. He puts in tons of hours practicing because he genuinely enjoys the sport.
Kevin is grateful for his parents, Kelly Yang and Allen Lee, for their unwavering support. Best of luck to Kevin and Amador Valley’s Boys Golf Team for the spring season.
