A Trip to the Wave
An Arizona rock formation of sandstone that looks like a giant wave in the ocean
This past Spring Break, I went on a road trip with my family to Nevada, California, Utah, and Arizona. We went hiking and saw several National Parks. In Arizona, we went to the Wave. The Wave is a rock formation of sandstone that looks like a giant wave in the ocean. To get there, we drove a long way on bumpy dirt roads to get to a trail. Then we hiked on a trail that was sandy, rocky, and hilly for almost 3 miles. We even walked past a cow. My legs were tired.
We climbed one last hill, and then we saw it! The wave was beautiful orange, red, pink, and yellow patterns that looked just like a big wave. We had a picnic overlooking some more rock formations. Then we took pictures at the Wave. We kept walking and saw dinosaur footprints in the rock. We explored a while and then it was time to go back.
To get back to the car, we had to walk down sandy trails, up some rocks, and across an open space. It was a long day, and very tiring, but worth it. We had a guide to take us there, and we are happy we did so that we didn’t get lost. The guide also helped us to find the coolest rock formations. If you want to hike the Wave, you must get a permit and only a few people a day are allowed. We enjoyed having the trails almost to ourselves.
