Say Hello to the Reuhl Family
Family member names and ages: Brian, Chelsea, Frankie (4), Charlie (2), Henry (8 months)
Where are you originally from? We are both originally from the Chicago Suburbs. Chelsea grew up in Vernon Hills and Brian grew up in Naperville.
How long have you lived in this neighborhood? We moved to Scarsdale in June of 2020. Can’t believe that it has already been almost 3 years!
Why did you choose to live in this neighborhood? After getting married, we moved to Arlington Heights for a year and then bought a house in a nearby suburb. Once we moved away, we began to miss our usual spots, easy access to the Metra, and the proximity to both our family and downtown Chicago, so we knew we had to move back! We first discovered Scarsdale when Chelsea participated in a 5K with her school that happened to be routed throughout the neighborhood. The unique layout, winding roads that all connect in the middle, and the overall sense of community within Scarsdale made us absolutely fall in love with the neighborhood. We knew that we wanted to raise our family here someday.
Is there anything unique about your home? Our house has some big roots, and we are only the second family to live in it. After the first family lived here for 60 years, it was sold to the school district and was designed, renovated, and partially rebuilt by students through the District 214 PAC program which provides practical real-life trade experience through the construction of homes within the community. This has led our home to be known endearingly as the ‘school house’. We love our home and the history behind it!
FAMILY:
How did you and your spouse meet? We met in college, at Illinois State University. Go Redbirds! A mutual friend introduced us to each other at a Greek life event. Afterward, we kept running into each other around campus and knew it was a sign that we should give it a shot. Here we are 16 years later, and the rest is history!
Tell us about your kids: Our children currently attend Kensington School. We fill our weekends with many of the park district programs and our kids are currently enrolled in swimming lessons and soccer. Our boys have been wanting to give basketball and t-ball a try in the near future. You’ll often find us outside, riding bikes or scooters, walking to the park, and playing catch in the yard. If the weather’s just right, you might even catch a glimpse of the Reuhl boys jumpin’ in their bounce house outside. Our kids also enjoy building forts, solving puzzles, and going to the library.
What do you like to do together as a family? We love spending time together as a family. We enjoy trying new experiences and filling our time making as many memories as possible. For the new year, we created a list of 23 things to do in 2023. It has been lots of fun checking things off the list such as going bowling, visiting a trampoline park, trying out a hibachi dinner, and going to the zoo. We have plenty more fun things on our list for this summer!
PROFESSIONS:
What is your profession? I am a Special Education teacher at an elementary school in Vernon Hills. I attended Illinois State University and earned my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Olivet Nazarene University.
What does your spouse do? Brian is the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications at WellBe Senior Medical in downtown Chicago. He earned his bachelor's degree in integrated marketing and communications from Illinois State University and is currently working toward his MBA at the University of Illinois.
What do you love about what you do? What we both love the most about our jobs is that we get to help people!
