Healthy Living

It has now been six months since we partnered and rebranded under our new name Sirius Orthodontics. It sure has been busy but it’s also been very rewarding to extend our reach and meet so many new people in our Central New York Region.

As an orthodontic office, we are in the unique position that we work with children and adults of all ages, and that we work to bring joy by helping them smile.  We have the ability to extend this joy outside of the office by being involved with our communities, and this is something we take great pride in.  We’d like to take this month to present a little year in review and mostly, to express our gratitude to this and all our surrounding communities.

To kick off the year, we attended the January Central New York Bridal Show, meeting engaged couples and their families. In our office, we commonly see people ahead of their wedding interested in getting their smiles wedding ready.  We wanted to make this process more available for them!  Our clinical team was onsite with our Invisalign itero scanning machine taking mouth scans for interested attendees so they could see a before and after simulation of what their smile would look like after Invisalign treatment.

In June we were proud to support Paige’s Butterfly Run.  This event brings runners and walkers from across Central New York to downtown Syracuse to participate in one of the region’s premier 5K races. Their goal is to put on a stellar community event while raising the critical dollars necessary to fund local pediatric cancer research and patient programs at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.  We were honored to sponsor the Caterpillar Crawl, a short race for children under 5-years-old. The event is free for children and each receive their own race bib. The best part was watching these active and proud kids cross the finish line!

We attended the Canine Carnival in September where we met amazing dogs and their humans. The Canine Carnival along with the Priscilla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation has donated nearly $400,000 to CNY animal rescues.

October was all about Trunk-or-Treats! Yes, orthodontists too attend these candy-filled events as it even gives us the opportunity to talk about the importance of good oral care and share what candies are best for patients in braces.

We hosted a mouthguard event in November at the Midstate Athletic Community Center to help spread awareness of the importance of mouthguards for hockey players and all athletes.  Many of our patients participate in events here, and this was a great opportunity for us to serve as educators.  As a former Skaneateles and then college lacrosse player, this initiative is very important to me.

Finally, throughout the year we visited local YMCA camps and provided Girl Scouts with education about how braces and Invisalign work. For us a highlight was helping kids look further into different bite types, mostly because it required them to admire one another’s smiles!

Oh what fun we’ve had, and we’re just getting started! Thank you to our communities for welcoming us and to you who follow along. We want wish you and yours a wonderful, safe, happy and healthy holiday season!
